‘The Biggest Part of the Summer’ is the 2nd biggest PLE in WWE history

The WWE’s SummerSlam event has long been one of the most anticipated nights on the wrestling calendar, filled with unforgettable matches and historic moments. Among the many superstars who have graced the SummerSlam stage, one stands out above the rest for his remarkable success: the Rated-R Superstar, Edge. With a record nine wins at SummerSlam, Edge has cemented his legacy as the event’s most successful competitor.

Edge’s journey at SummerSlam began in 1998 when he teamed up with Sable to take on Jacqueline and Marc Mero. Although he was a mystery partner and a relative newcomer at the time, Edge and Sable secured the victory, marking the start of his SummerSlam legacy.

In 2001, Edge opened SummerSlam with a memorable match against Lance Storm. Despite Storm being a highly underrated wrestler, Edge managed to capture the Intercontinental Championship, showcasing his growing prowess in the ring. This match was a perfect opener, setting the tone for an event that featured numerous WWE vs. The Alliance showdowns.

The TLC era

One of the most iconic moments in SummerSlam history occurred in 2000 when Edge and Christian competed in the first-ever Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (TLC) match. Teaming up against the Hardy Boyz and the Dudley Boyz, Edge and Christian emerged victorious, retaining their Tag Team Championships in a bout that would forever change the landscape of tag team wrestling. This match is still remembered as one of the most thrilling in WWE history, establishing Edge as a top-tier competitor.

Edge and his main event matches at WWE SummerSlam

Edge’s main event status was solidified through several high-profile feuds and victories. In 2002, he faced Eddie Guerrero in a match that, despite minimal build-up, turned out to be a classic. Both wrestlers displayed their immense talent and potential, delivering a match that thrilled fans and highlighted their future as locker room leaders.

The year 2004 saw Edge compete in a triple threat match against Batista and Chris Jericho for the Intercontinental Championship. While the match was relatively short, it featured three future World Champions showcasing their skills. Edge’s victory in this match further demonstrated his ability to perform on big stages.

In 2005, Edge’s feud with Matt Hardy culminated in a highly anticipated match. The backstory involving Edge’s relationship with Hardy’s ex-girlfriend Lita added a layer of intensity to the bout. Although the match ended quickly due to Hardy being unable to continue, the feud itself remained one of the most personal and memorable in WWE history.

Edge’s championship wins at WWE SummerSlam

Edge’s rivalry with John Cena in 2006 over the WWE Championship produced some of the most compelling matches of his career. Their clash at SummerSlam that year was particularly significant, as Edge successfully retained his title, solidifying his status as a main event star.

One of Edge’s most notable victories came in 2010 when he was part of Team WWE against The Nexus. Despite being eliminated by Heath Slater during the match, Edge’s involvement in this high-stakes encounter was a testament to his enduring star power.

Edge’s return

After a nine-year absence from in-ring competition, Edge made a triumphant return to WWE in 2020. His comeback saw him feuding with top stars like Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, and The Judgment Day, a faction he created. In 2021, Edge faced Seth Rollins in a brutal Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam. The Rated-R Superstar emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle, adding another significant win to his SummerSlam record.
