WWE SummerSlam is the second biggest WWE PLE

There is nothing more exciting for fans than a surprise. Fans respond naturally and in amazement when they see a comeback at a major event. SummerSlam has been the location of several great returns to WWE. Some of the returns may have been publicized before the occurrence, while others occurred unexpectedly. SummerSlam is likely the second largest event on the WWE premium live event calendar, and if it isn’t WrestleMania, SummerSlam is an excellent opportunity to return to WWE.

Some of the most memorable returns in SummerSlam history have seen wrestlers return to the ring, while others have been sequences that set up future feuds. Nonetheless, one comeback is significant enough during SummerSlam, but other editions have seen many returns, making fans crazy with surprises.

Here are the top seven best WWE returns in SummerSlam history

7. The Undertaker – WWE SummerSlam 2009

CM Punk defeated Jeff Hardy in a TLC match in an epic main event at SummerSlam 2009 to win the World Heavyweight Championship for the third time in his career. The Second City Saints’ jubilation was cut short as the lights flickered and The Undertaker appeared.

It was the Demon of Death Valley’s first appearance in four months, after defeating Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25. Undertaker targeted Punk and delivered a Chokeslam, signalling the beginning of their fight for the World Heavyweight Championship.

6. Edge – SummerSlam 2019

Edge returned to WWE at SummerSlam 2011, just before his real-life closest friend Christian defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton. Nonetheless, eight years later, the WWE Hall of Famer returned to SummerSlam in 2019 to face his local crowd in Toronto, Canada.

This visit was important because the Rated-R Superstar interrupted Elias’ segment and speared him. This would have come as a surprise to some WWE fans because it was Edge’s first physical appearance in a WWE ring after eight years. Five months later, the WWE Hall of Famer surprised fans by returning to the 2020 Royal Rumble.

5. Brock Lesnar – SummerSlam 2021

Roman Reigns maintained his hold on the Universal Championship, denying John Cena the opportunity to capture a record-breaking 17th World Championship reign at SummerSlam 2021. However, before Reigns could leave the arena, Brock Lesnar’s theme song played over the speakers at Allegiant Stadium.

The Beast Incarnate’s reappearance was unexpected, and he turned around for the first time in 18 years. Lesnar’s first appearance in 16 years, since WrestleMania 36, featured a new style with a ponytail. Lesnar has had numerous historic moments at SummerSlam, and he was focused on Reigns’ Universal Championship.

4. Triple H – SummerSlam 2007

Triple H was sidelined for seven months after tearing his right quadriceps during the World Tag Team Championship match between himself and Shawn Michaels versus Rated-RKO at New Year’s Revolution 2007. Seven months later, at SummerSlam 2007, the Game returned to the ring against King Booker.

The Game had a great response, and defeating an old opponent in Booker was a breeze for both men. It wasn’t the best of bouts between the two, but it didn’t have to be, with Triple H prevailing with his signature Pedigree.

3. Becky Lynch – SummerSlam 2021

Becky Lynch surprised the world when she revealed she was pregnant just a year into her Raw Women’s Championship reign, and she gave up the championship to Asuka, who won the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match in 2020. Nonetheless, Lynch returned to WWE a year later and prevented Bianca Belair and Carmella from facing off for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2021.

Lynch assaulted Carmella. She was removed from the equation and replaced by Carmella, and Belair was challenged for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. The Man capturing the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the fourth time was not surprising, but the manner was, as she just needed 26 seconds to do the job by squashing Belair.

2. The Undertaker – SummerSlam 1994

The Undertaker has made several spectacular returns over his 30-year WWE career, but one of his earliest huge appearances came at SummerSlam 1994. The Deadman stayed out for seven months following his coffin match loss to Yokozuna at the 1994 Royal Rumble, where the WWE Championship was on the line. He returned to face his counterpart in the main event of SummerSlam.

This was one of Undertaker’s earliest character reinventions, as he changed his theme tune and wore purple instead of gray. It was a poor main event, but it was more about Undertaker’s return to WWE, as he made a grand entrance with Paul Bearer on his side.

1. Roman Reigns – SummerSlam 2020

The Universal Championship contest between “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman at SummerSlam 2020 was one of the worst main events in the show’s history. Nonetheless, the Fiend defeated the Monster Among Men and became a two-time Universal Champion.

Roman Reigns makes his long-awaited return to WWE, attacking both guys and spearing the new Universal Champion. Reigns went heel for the first time in six years, and fans eagerly anticipated it. This villain turn was one of the finest things to happen to Reigns; a week later, he won the Universal Championship for the second time at Payback, and he still retains it three years later.
