We are on the road to “The Biggest Party of the Summer”

WWE SummerSlam 2024, slated for August 3 in Cleveland Browns Stadium, promises a night of tremendous action and high-stakes drama. Gunther will challenge Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship after winning the King of the Ring competition. On the women’s side, Nia Jax, the Queen of the Ring, will face Bayley for the WWE Women’s Championship in what looks to be a brutal match.

Grudge bouts include CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre, which was motivated by Punk’s intervention that cost McIntyre championships earlier this year, setting the setup for a devastating confrontation. Furthermore, the undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is set to battle Solo Sikoa, while Logan Paul defends his United States Championship against LA Knight.

However, as the wrestling industry prepares for this year’s event, we look at an unexpected story from SummerSlam’s rich history: John Cena’s astonishing SummerSlam record.

“Big Match John” Cena has the most losses in WWE SummerSlam PLE history to date

In the storied history of WWE SummerSlam, one name stands out for an unexpected reason: John Cena holds the record for the most losses at this iconic event. With ten defeats, Cena’s SummerSlam legacy is marked by memorable battles and high-profile rivalries.

Here are all of Cena’s SummerSlam losses:

  1. Edge vs. John Cena (2006)
  2. Randy Orton vs. John Cena (2009)
  3. Batista vs. John Cena (2008)
  4. CM Punk vs. John Cena (2011)
  5. CM Punk vs. Big Show vs. John Cena (2012)
  6. Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena (2013)
  7. Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena (2014)
  8. Seth Rollins vs. John Cena (2015)
  9. AJ Styles vs. John Cena (2016)
  10. Roman Reigns vs. John Cena (2021)

Despite his losses, Cena’s performances at SummerSlam have been nothing short of spectacular. His matches with Randy Orton, CM Punk, and Daniel Bryan are considered classics, showcasing his resilience and ability to deliver unforgettable moments. Cena’s streak of six consecutive losses from 2011 to 2016, including battles against the likes of Lesnar and Styles, highlighted his willingness to face the best and push them to their limits.

John Cena recently announced his retirement

John Cena declared on Money in the Bank 2024 that he will retire from professional wrestling next year after two decades in the ring.

The wrestler-turned-actor made a passionate address to a stadium full of World Wrestling Entertainment fans in Toronto, who booed when Cena announced that the 2025 season would be his last. He promised a farewell tour with dozens of shows and an epic last battle, as well as continued involvement with the wrestling franchise that began his career.

“Thank you so much for letting me play in the house that you built for so many years,” Cena addressed the audience. In a post-event press conference, Cena informed reporters that he is physically “at my end,” but it does not mean he should abandon the sport he loves.
