Top six worst WWE Money in the Bank cash-ins in history

Money in the Bank 2024 will be held in Canada
The Money in the Bank premium live event is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year. The action at this event, which is headlined by the Men’s and Women’s Money in the Bank ladder bouts, is usually above standard, and the WWE Universe generally likes how it is presented.
The MITB is a career-changing battle for many superstars, and it provides a plethora of opportunities for WWE Superstars to establish themselves as top-tier talents in professional wrestling history.
However, winning the MITB ladder match will not be sufficient to crown the World Champion. For many stars right now, the secret to success is patiently waiting for the appropriate moment and a chance to cash in on the deal.
While some Men’s Money in the Bank winners have failed to cash in, women who use the MITB briefcase have a 100% success record. Without further ado, here are some of the most memorable Money in the Bank cash-ins in WWE history.
6. Drew McIntyre – 2024
Ninety days after cashing in his Money in the Bank contract and becoming WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Damien Priest sought to defend his championship against the man who had held it first: Seth “Freakin'” Rollins. McIntyre marched down the ramp to cash in his Money in the Bank contract, turning the match into a triple threat.
Rollins and McIntyre locked up almost immediately in a rematch of their WrestleMania encounter. Rollins tried the Stomp, but McIntyre responded with a Future Shock DDT. The second Claymore attempt was thwarted by Priest’s clothesline, and as McIntyre reappeared, Toronto went crazy for CM Punk’s comeback.
Punk drove McIntyre out of the ring and beat the Scot out of it; the contest did not end since Triple Threat bouts are no-disqualification by default. McIntyre fled into the ropes. Punk followed, but not before grabbing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to attack McIntyre with. Priest used the interference to pin McIntyre and retain the title.
5. John Cena – 2012
John Cena earned the briefcase at Money in the Bank 2012 and declared his intention to use it to challenge CM Punk for the WWE Title a week in before. At Raw 1000, the announcement backfired on him when The Big Show attacked him, resulting in a disqualification and Punk retaining the championship.
It was a cheap ratings technique that undermined the popular notion at the time. The bout is also notable for The Rock approaching the ring only to be assaulted by Punk, establishing a historic heel turn.
4. Baron Corbin – 2017
Corbin was apparently penalized for major backstage heat at the time, and to be honest, he was not prepared to become WWE Champion in 2017. Not that the man he challenged was Jinder Mahal. One of the least thrilling World Championship matchups of all time.
In the narrative, Corbin lost on Smackdown Live due to a distraction from John Cena, whom he subsequently defeated at Summerslam five days later. It was definitely an awful week to be Baron.
3. Braun Strowman – 2018
Strowman was on fire in 2017 and 2018, but his pursuit of the Universal Title with the contract dramatically cooled him down, exacerbated by an ill-advised heel turn. He failed twice at cashing in before ultimately securing his bout inside Hell in a Cell versus Roman Reigns.
Brock Lesnar interrupted the bout by assaulting both guys, resulting in a no-contest. It was a huge waste of time, and Strowman is still struggling to recover momentum.
2. Austin Theory – 2022
Austin Theory has had one of the worst cash-ins ever. There were undoubtedly more effective ways to remove the briefcase from him. Why didn’t he challenge Seth Rollins when he had already made an open challenge for the US Title?
Why didn’t he hold off on going after the big belt until Roman Reigns was at his most vulnerable? It was an overall catastrophe for Theory when you consider that a worn-out Rollins pinned him after being completely destroyed by Bobby Lashley. In the upcoming months, it will be intriguing to watch how he recovers.
1. Damien Sandow – 2013
Even though Sandow emerged victorious from the Money in the Bank PPV with the briefcase, he completely lost his way prior to his cash-in, dropping 12 of his 13 encounters on Raw and Smackdown. This indicated that nobody thought he would win the World Heavyweight Championship from John Cena.
Naturally, he didn’t. Sandow was utterly destroyed, even after hitting Cena with his seemingly broken arm. As a result, he was eliminated as a main event contender and became the first person to lose a cash-in match completely. It all appeared to be incredibly counterproductive for WWE.
