John Cena will defend the Undisputed title for the first time at Backlash 2025!

After defeating Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41, John Cena created history to become the one and only 17-time WWE World Champion. This win saw him break the tie with Ric Flair and cement himself as the ‘Greatest of all time.’

However, before Cena could even properly celebrate his win, an opponent struck him from behind — none other than his long-time rival, Randy Orton, with whom he’s had a rivalry spanning over two decades.

Cena is now set for his first title defense against Orton at the 2025 edition of Backlash, which is set for May 10th from the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Orton is looking to defeat Cena and win his 15th World title, moving closer to Cena’s record of 17 titles.

While Orton catches his opponents off guard with his finishing move, the “RKO,” giving rise to the phrase “RKO outta nowhere,” Cena’s finishing move, the Attitude Adjustment (AA), firmly seals his victory.

John Cena has hit a total of 35 Attitude Adjustments on Randy Orton

As mentioned, John Cena successfully defended the Undisputed title for the first time against Randy Orton in the main event of Backlash PLE. Ahead of the PLE, the promotion built up the hype by uploading a video showcasing every time Cena hit Orton with the Attitude Adjustment.

This was similar to the video they uploaded yesterday, showcasing every time Randy Orton flatlined Cena with his finishing move, the RKO.

Cena has dropped his career-long rival with an Attitude Adjustment in 32 televised instances. With the most recent ones being at Backlash 2025 where Cena hit an additional 3 Attitude Adjustments to further the total to 35 in what was dubbed as their ‘final battle’.

The storyline saw the two stars revive their iconic feud, with a major difference: Orton wasn’t the bad guy anymore; Cena was, something which no one back then could have predicted, given their character arc at that time.

What are your favorite moments from this iconic decades-long feud between the two legends? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments section.
