The Viper has been listening to someone’s voices.

‘The Viper’ Randy Orton, during the Friday the 13th episode of SmackDown, viciously attacked his friend and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, after their WrestleMania match contract signing.

Orton’s brutal attack left Cody dazed and bloodied, and made it clear that the ‘Vintage Orton’ that everyone feared was back, looking to claim his 15th WWE World title.

Since his heel turn a few weeks ago, Orton has been seen talking on the phone with someone who has yet to be revealed. The angle was first teased on the March 16 edition of Raw after the turn, when Michael Cole interviewed Orton.

The Viper even revealed that he has been listening to the voice of one individual. The angle was also mentioned during Stephanie McMahon’s return to warn Cody about Orton on this past edition of Raw at MSG.

“…Cody, you have to understand that Randy isn’t listening to the voices in his head… He loves what they’re telling them… and it appears he is listening to someone as well.” Stephanie said.

The angle has already been a massive talking point among fans, with many speculating the mystery caller’s identity. Even WWE.com published an article speculating on who might be on the other hand.

Some fans have speculated that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is the mystery caller, noting his past history with both Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton. After their first conversation, Johnson even remarked that “wrestling has more than one royal family,” and the WWE article mentioned earlier lists him as a potential candidate, fueling further speculation among fans.

The Rock has been absent from WWE since Elimination Chamber 2025

Johnson has been absent from WWE programming since the 2025 edition of Elimination Chamber, where he played a major role in John Cena’s heel turn and then was nowhere to be seen. Notably, the segment also involved Cody Rhodes as Johnson originally offered him to become his corporate champion.

Amid speculations of The Rock’s involvement, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer discussed these speculations about The Rock being the mystery caller on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.

Alvarez insisted that The Rock must be the person talking to Orton. On the other hand, Meltzer reported that WWE sources have “strongly denied” The Rock’s involvement in the storyline.

He explained that if The Rock were part of the angle, knowledge of it would be limited to just a handful of people, namely WWE President Nick Khan, CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and The Rock himself. Meltzer emphasized that, according to what he’s been told, The Rock is not connected to the storyline.

It is possible that WWE might be keeping Johnson’s involvement under wraps for obvious reasons. However, it is also possible that he might be involved in the storyline as revealed by WWE sources to Meltzer.

Regardless, WWE has successfully captured fans’ attention with this storyline and now faces the challenge of delivering a satisfying reveal. If the payoff falls short, fans risk being disappointed once again, a situation that has become all too common in recent months.

Is The Rock the mystery caller talking to Randy Orton?

No, per Dave Meltzer, WWE sources have “strongly denied” The Rock’s involvement in the storyline.

When and where will the title clash between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton take place?

The two stars are set to battle for the Undisputed title in the main event of Night 1 of WrestleMania. That said, the main event can change at a moment’s notice.

When and where will WrestleMania 42 take place?

The 2026 edition of the PLE will take place as a two-night event on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
