The road to WrestleMania has kicked off with the Royal Rumble PLE and the next stop on the road is the Elimination Chamber PLE and fans have started speculating about the matches and appearances.
In today’s edition of the rumor roundup, we cover the latest rumors and news circulating among fans on social media, including Solo Sikoa vs Jacob Fatu plans, Carmella’s WWE exit, The Rock’s return on SmackDown, NXT events, Talents frustrated with creative plans and Janel Grant’s Amended Lawsuit.
Solo Sikoa vs Jacob Fatu plans
During a recent episode of WrestleVotes’ Backstage Pass Q&A, it was revealed that the promotion was planning a clash between Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at this year’s WrestleMania.
However, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter now reports that Jacob Fatu vs Solo Sikoa is not planned for WrestleMania 41, as WWE already has other match plans for one of them that weekend.
Carmella’s WWE exit
According to reports from Fightful and PW Nexus, Carmella’s contract expired recently and she is no longer under contract with the WWE. The former Women’s Champion has been absent from WWE programming since March 2023.
The Rock’s return on SmackDown
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson made his electrifying return on the 02/21 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. PW Insider now reports that The Rock’s involvement in this week’s SmackDown wasn’t finalized until the night before the show, and “the company shifted plans to pivot towards his appearance.”
According to Fightful Select, WWE talent were surprised when they found out about Johnson’s appearance. The report further stated that it seems there’s growing uncertainty about the WrestleMania 41 card, with one top star in the company joking that the show is “at the mercy of Dwayne (Johnson).”
NXT events and WWE Hall of Fame
The NXT Vengeance Day PLE as well as the upcoming Roadblock PLE has been advertised as WWE events and aren’t explicitly branded as NXT events in promotional materials. According to Fightful Select, this is because WWE believes the events will attract more attention by doing so.
According to WrestleVotes Backstage Pass, the WWE Hall of Fame event may not take place immediately following SmackDown this year.
Talents frustrated with creative plans
According to Fightful, women in WWE who are frustrated have expressed concerns about the struggling tag team division, limited screen time for those who aren’t top stars, and poor development of championship contenders.
The report also suggests that there is frustration over being told to be patient about their creative plans, only for nothing to come of it. Some women who aren’t featured often on Raw or SmackDown feel uncertain about their future in the promotion, particularly after the company unexpectedly parted ways with Sonya Deville while she was in the midst of negotiating a new contract.
Janel Grant’s Amended Lawsuit
A few weeks ago, it was revealed that Janel Grant had made several updates to her lawsuit against former pro wrestling mogul Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE with new details being disclosed to the public.
As per Cultaholic, the complaint grew from 67 pages to over 100, with significant changes made to the original lawsuit. These updates included allegations of McMahon sharing explicit photos of Grant without her consent, details of a custom office designed to suit Laurinaitis’ preferences after Grant joined Talent Relations, claims that Stephanie McMahon and Nick Khan enabled McMahon’s misconduct, an alleged voice memo from McMahon, and mentions of other individuals, including Brock Lesnar, among other things.
McMahon’s team shortly responded to the amended lawsuit, arguing that it was a public relations strategy. Wrestlenomics has now reported that the Stamford-based promotion has joined Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis in opposing the revised lawsuit.
WWE’s latest filing argues that Grant’s amendments do not affect WWE’s motion to settle the lawsuit through private arbitration, which is what WWE, McMahon, and Laurinaitis have all sought. It remains to be seen if this opposition will be upheld, as a federal judge will decide whether Grant’s amendments and new evidence will be accepted.
