A new report from PWInsider reitreated earlier reports that Roman Reigns’ win over Penta on Raw in Mexico City was not a reflection of Penta, but instead tied to the larger long-term storyline involving Reigns, which is building toward a WrestleMania 43 main event against Oba Femi.
Reigns defeated Penta this Monday on Raw in Mexcio City to retain the World Heavyweight title in his fourth title defense. He is now set to defend the title against LA Knight at the upcoming Money in the Bank 2026 in New Orleans next month.
Ilja Dragunov’s AEW move
Former United States Champion Ilja Dragunov chose not to re-sign with the Stamford-based promotion when his contract expired last month. Earlier this week, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that Dragunov is going to AEW while noting that additional details surrounding his arrival remain unclear.
Now Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that AEW has officially signed Dragunov, with his debut expected to come “very soon.”
Meltzer explained that these agreements can take several weeks to finalize and said it was already “apparent in August” that Dragunov would be joining the company.
Fightful Select has provided additional confirmation, reporting that AEW continues to prepare for Dragunov’s arrival by working on debut materials, including graphics. The promotion is also working through his visa situation.
Jake Hager’s injury
Fomer WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger aka Jake Hager since his exit has competed in Bellator MMA and even AEW. However, Hager in March signed with Dana White’s Power Slap, winning his debut match via KO in the third round.
Since then he has suffered back-to-back brutal defeat with his most recent defeat against Johnny Magna at Powerslap 23 raising concerns among fans as the match ended in the second round via Doctor stoppage after a slap from Magna left Hager bleeding from his left eye.
Patricia Blackburn, Hager’s partner and fellow Power Slap competitor, revealed to Slap News Hager is recovering from emergency eye surgery. While keeping specific details private, they expressed gratitude for everyone’s support.
“Thank you to the UFC and Power Slap family for the incredible love and support you’ve shown Jake during this difficult time. Jake is currently recovering from an emergency eye surgery.
We’re taking things one day at a time and keeping the details private, but your kindness, support, and genuine concern have meant more than you know. Thank you for being there for Jake. We’re so grateful to be part of a community that shows up when it matters most.” she said.
WWE-TNA partnership
According to Dave Meltzer of the WON, WWE may have scaled back its collaboration with TNA because TNA was unable to land a Wednesday night television slot intended to disrupt AEW.
Since TNA didn’t significantly impact AEW, the Stamford-based promotion appears to be moving away from the alliance, a shift highlighted by the absence of WWE presence at TNA’s recent PPV Bound for Glory.
