WWE SmackDown Summary and Highlights
The American Nightmare

Cody Rhodes recapped Saturday Night’s Main Event, stating that Drew McIntyre had introduced the title, a weapon, into the match. The Champion mentioned McIntyre again, drawing a wave of boos from the crowd. Rhodes said there had been no hesitation to pull the trigger on McIntyre.
Cody called Drew the most self-sabotaging star in the business, declaring that he was moving on and that McIntyre was in his rearview mirror as he looked to do something different. Rhodes revealed that he wanted to sit with the fans in Greenville and watch Friday Night SmackDown, so they could decide what’s next for the WWE Championship.
The lights went out as Aleister Black’s music hit, and he made his entrance accompanied by Zelina Vega. Black stated that ever since setting Damian Priest on fire, he had been looking for something new. He made his way into the ring, saying that he had a chip on his shoulder the size of the Undisputed WWE World Title.
Rhodes moved to confront Black, but Zelina stepped in front of him, declaring that his nightmare had begun now. Vega then slapped Rhodes just as GM Nick Aldis appeared. Aldis announced that if Black was looking for a challenge, he would get it, Rhodes vs. Black was official for the main event.

Insights & Backstage Moments:
- Backstage, Ilja Dragunov and Talla Tonga had another staredown before Ilja made his way to issue the open challenge.
WWE US Title Open Challenge: Ilja Dragunov (c) vs Johnny Gargano
Tommaso Ciampa answered Ilja Dragunov’s open challenge, appearing alongside Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae. Ciampa said that he had come out the previous week to answer the challenge, but Ilja had turned him down and called him a “jackass.” Now, he had come out in Greenville surrounded by jackasses. Ciampa then stepped into the ring.
Ilja admitted that Ciampa was right, prompting the crowd to erupt in “Jackass” chants. Dragunov accepted the challenge, but from Johnny Gargano instead. He called out Gargano as Ciampa urged him to take the title, shouting at Ilja to keep ducking him.
The bell rang for the first match of the show, with the two stars meeting inside the ring for the first time. The match was another solid outing from Dragunov, and Gargano met him on pace, but the stacked card meant the match was shorter than usual. In the end, Dragunov retained the title after delivering the H-bomb.

- As Zayn left, R-Truth appeared in full “Ron Cena” mode. He asked to be included in the tournament draw to determine John Cena’s final opponent, jokingly offering to put his balls in Nick Aldis’s hand. Aldis informed him that his name was already in the tumbler, prompting Ron to reply that, in that case, he didn’t want his balls touching Nick’s anyway.
The New WWE Women’s Champion
Jade Cargill stepped into the ring and picked up the mic. She said that what happened to Tiffany Stratton could happen to anybody in that locker room, and made no mistake about it, she was that b*tch! Cargill goes to leave as Charlotte Flair’s music interrupts her, Flair makes the entrance alongside Alexa Bliss, the two face off with Cargill flaunting the title.
The pyros went off as Cargill continued to stare down Flair, who went to face off again, but Bliss stopped her and asked her to focus on the match right now.

Charlotte Flair vs Nia Jax
After battling Alexa Bliss last week, Nia Jax took on Bliss’ tag partner and the other half of WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Charlotte Flair. The size difference was much less prevalent in this matchup, but Jax took over nevertheless, showcasing her power.
However, Flair managed to stay in the match, and a Tornado DDT had Jax in all sorts of trouble until NXT’s Lash Legend appeared, attacking Alexa Bliss, locking in a headlock. Jax capitalized to deliver the Annihilator and pin Flair. Jax and Legend celebrated the win, signalling a new alliance.
Winner: Nia Jax

- WWE has finally pulled the trigger on NXT call-ups and is focusing on SmackDown creative, which has improved the show manyfold.
- Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviewed Nia Jax and Lash Legend. Jax claimed she would have beaten Charlotte without Lash’s help, then mentioned Alexa and Charlotte, saying she realized she needed a friend, and now she had a badass one. Legend hugged her, calling herself the “one and only bougie bully,” insisting she was everything she said she was, and promised that they were heading straight to the top, with tonight being just the beginning.
- GM Nick Aldis announced his selections for the first-round matches in John Cena’s final match tournament. The Miz is set to face Jey Uso, while the second matchup would feature LA Knight against a mystery opponent that Aldis chose to keep secret.
Giulia (c) vs Chelsea Green – Women’s United States title match
The bell rang as Green fired a slap, and Giulia responded with one of her own, setting off chaos in the ring. Giulia hit Arrivederci immediately and went for the cover, but Green kicked out after Fyre stepped onto the apron, causing a distraction.
Giulia continued her assault, punishing Green on the ropes, while Kiana James sneaked in a cheap shot. Fyre quickly retaliated, taking James down with a big boot. As Giulia turned to attack Fyre, Green seized the opportunity, rolling her up for a pin using the ropes, and she got it! Chelsea Green became the new Women’s U.S. Champion.

- NXT North American Champion and AAA Mixed-Tag Team Champion alongside Green, Ethan Page was rinside during the match.
- The MFTs were backstage when Solo Sikoa arrived, commending them for their efforts last week but telling them it wasn’t enough. He warned that Sami Zayn was still around, the Wyatt Sicks possessed something that belonged to their family, and so did Ilja Dragunov. Tama Tonga assured him they had it handled, but Solo emphasized that tonight was about the “big man,” about ensuring no one ever disrespected the family again. After they left, the Wyatts emerged from the shadows behind them.
Rey Fenix vs Talla Tonga
Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) and Shinsuke Nakamura attacked the MFTs during their entrance, while Fenix attacked Talla with back-to-back suicide dives. Talla intercepted the third one and sent Fenix back in the ring as the bell rings and the match begins.
