Tiffany Stratton interrupted the commentary and yelled for the SmackDown intro music to be cut. Stratton called out Jade Cargill, but GM Nick Aldis appeared instead, trying to reason with her and reminding her that she had only just been cleared and should avoid any physical contact until her title defense.

Stratton continued to call out Cargill, who eventually appeared. GM Nick Aldis reiterated that there was to be zero physical contact and called for security. Cargill stated that she wasn’t going to do anything before cutting a promo about their upcoming title clash. Stratton had heard enough and tried to attack Cargill, but security intervened. Stratton then returned to the ring and flaunted her title.

Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Backstage, R-Truth, dressed as Santa Claus, was handing out candy to the Motor City Machine Guns, insisting it was Christmas when they questioned him. Solo Sikoa showed up and called them bums for taking candy from a stranger. The two sides exchanged words, each claiming they were ahead of the other in line, until Chris Sabin suggested settling it in the ring with a match to decide who deserved the spot.

Ilja Dragunov (c) vs Nathan Frazer – WWE US Title Open Challenge

Nathan Frazer, along with Axiom, came out to answer Ilja Dragunov’s challenge; however, Tomasso Ciampa interrupted the entrance to complain about Frazer getting the title shot. Dragunov points out that Frazer was here first and waves off Ciampa to kick off the first match of the show.

The fast-paced match saw both men push each other to the limits, wearing down the damage. Frazer almost picked up the win after delivering the Phenoix Splash, but Ilja fought back and delivered a Slam followed by the H-Bomb to pin Frazer and retain the title.

Winner & Still: Ilja Dragunov

Grade: B+

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • The commentary team noted that the two had faced each other only twice before, once in NXT UK in 2022 and again in NXT in 2023. This was their first encounter on the main roster.
  • Tomasso Ciampa attacked Frazer after the match, leading to the involvement of Axiom and Johnny Gargano. The brawl spilled backstage, with Ilja managing to get some separation. Ilja then turned to see Tama Tonga holding his title belt.

Carmelo Hayes vs Kit Wilson

Following their backstage interaction last week, Carmelo Hayes took on Kit Wilson who, despite starting strong, fell prey to Hayes’ offense. Melo then hit a tope con giro before sending Wilson back into the ring, but The Miz appeared out of nowhere and drove Hayes face-first into the ring post.

Wilson capitalized with a corkscrew diving elbow, but Hayes survived and hit the First 48 to pin Wilson and pick up the win. Miz stepped in and delivered the Skull-Crushing Finale, taking out Hayes. He shouted that it wasn’t over until he said so.

Winner: Carmelo Hayes

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviewed Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair. Bliss stated that if the Kabuki Warriors had a problem, they knew where to find them. Flair added that everyone wanted what they had and admitted she didn’t let many people get close, but letting Alexa in had made her better. She remarked that Nia Jax had lived in bitterness, blaming it on her Zodiac sign, while Bliss declared she was going to teach Nia a lesson tonight.
  • Sami Zayn was explaining to GM Nick Aldis that he wanted to be in the Motor City Machine Guns’ corner for their match against the MFTs. Aldis reminded him that he wasn’t medically cleared and asked him to sit it out. Cody Rhodes then showed up and told Sami he should be proud of what he accomplished with the United States Championship. Zayn wished him luck in his match against Drew McIntyre and said he was rooting for him.
  • Sami left as Aldis while mentioning that he had to do his due diligence, and asked Cody if he had anything to do with the attack on Jacob Fatu. Rhodes admitted he understood why Nick had to ask, but denied any involvement, saying he liked Jacob. Aldis then presented a copy of the contract for the title match the next night. Cody said he was fine with it but needed to stay focused on Drew.

Alexa Bliss vs Nia Jax

Nia Jax attacked Alexa Bliss while the latter was handing out the tag title to her tag partner, Charlotte Flair. Jax took control early, shutting down every offense from Bliss. Jax continued to manhandle Bliss, chugging her out of the ring, only for Flair to help her back in.

A Samoan Drop led to Jax almost pinning Bliss to pick up the win, but Bliss survived. In the final moments, Charlotte got up on the apron to cause the distraction when Jax was lining up the Annihilator. Alexa capitalized by knocking Jax off the middle rope and pinning her to secure the win.

Winner: Alexa Bliss

Grade: C+

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Backstage, the MFTs ran into Rey Fenix. Solo Sikoa asked if Fenix wanted to fight, but Fenix said he didn’t, prompting Solo to tell him to go “trick or treat or something.” Fenix then climbed onto a production crate to call out Talla Tonga, declaring he wanted a match with him. Sikoa warned that it was basically his funeral, as Fenix slapped Tanga, which made Tonga angry. Solo stepped in, telling Tonga to calm down and focus on tonight, assuring him he could deal with Fenix next week.
  • Backstage, Tiffany Stratton ran into Giulia and Kiana James, but Nick Aldis stepped in to diffuse the situation. Chelsea Green and Alba Fyre then appeared, with Chelsea complaining that Giulia was close to breaking her record as WWE Women’s United States Champion and demanding a match. Giulia agreed, and Aldis officially scheduled it for next week. Green and Fyre began celebrating, only to realize that Nikki Cross had been standing right there the entire time. They quickly made a hasty exit.
  • Damian Priest delivered a promo warning Aleister Black.

Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs MFTs (JC Mateo & Tama Tonga)

In the final match of the show, Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) battled MFTs (JC Mateo & Tama Tonga) in a tag team match. The two teams jostled for control, which swung back and forth between the two teams. MCMG managed to take over, even evading an attack by Talla Tonga on the ringside. However, the numbers game took over as Solo Sikoa stepped onto the apron to distract the referee while Tonga Loa pushed Shelley off the top rope.

Tonga hit the Cut Throat to pin Sabin and secure the win. After the match, Solo Sikoa and the MFT continued to attack Shelley and Sabin until Rey Fenix ran in to make the save, but he was caught with a big boot from Tanga Tonga. Shinsuke Nakamura then rushed in to even the odds, taking out Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa, but he too fell victim to Tanga Tonga, who delivered a chokeslam to stand tall alongside his faction.

Winner: MFTs (JC Mateo & Tama Tonga)

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Backstage, Drew McIntyre entered Nick Aldis’s office and confirmed he had no issues with the contract. Aldis admitted he was concerned that Drew might say something he shouldn’t on a live mic. McIntyre told him to relax and assured him they’d see each other out in the ring.

SNME Contract Signing

GM Nick Aldis introduced both the Champion and the Challenger as Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre made their way into the ring. Nick Aldis asked both men to sign on the dotted line. Rhodes pointed at Drew to sign the contract, but McIntyre looked at it and stated that he couldn’t.

Rhodes took the contract from him and signed it. Aldis questioned why McIntyre wouldn’t sign, and Drew complained that the contract was lopsided. Irritated, Aldis insisted it was all standard and demanded he sign. McIntyre refused, pointing out that if there was a disqualification, Cody would retain the title, making it unfair. Aldis warned that if Drew didn’t want the title shot, he would find someone backstage who would.

McIntyre told Aldis to get “one of them” and started to leave, but Rhodes asked him to sit down. Rhodes suggested that McIntyre wanted a stipulation ensuring Cody wouldn’t win the title via disqualification or count-out. McIntyre agreed, as Aldis tried to intervene, only to be stopped by Cody.

McIntyre then signed the contract as Aldis voiced his discontent again, but Cody stopped him a second time. Despite hesitation, Aldis eventually signaled for Drew to sign, making the match official. McIntyre declared that Cody represented corporate America, which somehow drew cheers from the fans, while he worked hard. He added that although Cody might be the “American Nightmare,” Drew was the real American Dream, a citizen despite not being born in the U.S.

Cody acknowledged McIntyre’s hard work but drew a distinction: when he got fed up with WWE, he walked out, whereas McIntyre had been fired. Cody wished Drew luck and started to leave, but McIntyre insisted Cody wouldn’t get the last word, spinning the narrative.

McIntyre mocked the fans and Cody’s orange Halloween suit, pointing out that Cody would have been trick-or-treating with his daughters. When McIntyre asked their names, Cody lost his temper and slammed Drew face-first onto the table. Cody grabbed the title, but Drew ducked and escaped.

Aldis tried to calm Cody, but Rhodes pushed Aldis aside and took a vicious Claymore from McIntyre. McIntyre followed up with a slam through the table and seized the title, declaring it was Cody’s last night and that tomorrow he would be WWE Champion, by any means necessary. Drew flaunted the title before placing it on Cody, who was lying on the broken table, ending the show.

Grade: B

Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • The first match of the show between Ilja Dragunov and Nathan Frazer was the highlight of the night.
  • The final segment between Rhodes and McIntyre was pretty standard, apart from McIntyre’s amazing mic work. It will be interesting to see how the match this Saturday plays out between the two.
