The first Royal Rumble match was held in 1988

The Stamford-based promotion kicks off every year and the WrestleMania season with the Royal Rumble PLE. The PLE which was first held in 1988 has become one of the most iconic events of WWE every year. Along with WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, and Money in the Bank, the Rumble PLEs are referred to as the “Big Five”.

The PLE is named after the Royal Rumble match which is a modified battle royal Battle, where participants eliminate opponents by tossing them over the top rope. The match usually features 30 competitors, with two wrestlers starting, and new entrants joining every 90 seconds until all participants are in the ring.

Initially, the PLE only featured a men’s Rumble match but in 2018, the promotion added the Women’s Rumble match to the PLE and since then every Rumble event has featured two Rumble matches.

Every year 30 stars enter the match in hopes of winning the match to get a title shot at the grandest stage of WrestleMania. Created by WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson, the match has become one of the most ideal ways for a star to headline WrestleMania and compete for the title.

The first-ever Royal Rumble event was held in 1988 at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Since then the WWE Royal Rumble PLE has been held every year in late January with the 2025 edition being an exception as it is being held in early February.

While over the years there have been multiple Rumble winners, very few have been able to win the match more than once. Here we will take a look at WWE stars who have the most wins in Royal Rumble matches.

WWE stars with the most wins in Royal Rumble matches

Stone Cold is the only star in WWE history to win the Royal Rumble match three times, apart from him there are nine stars including Cody Rhodes, John Cena, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, and more who have won the match twice.
