IPL 2024: MI inspired with how Hardik Pandya is handling boos, claims Shreyas Gopal
Hardik Pandya didn’t have a great start as MI captain in the IPL 2024.
Hardik Pandya has been a hot topic both ahead of the start of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and even during the tournament as well. The all-rounder made headlines when he was traded from from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians . Later, he was handed over the captaincy of the team, and Rohit Sharma was removed, which didn’t go well for the team.
MI lost the first three games to start the IPL 2024. As a result, Hardik faced a lot of criticism from the fans. Wherever he was playing, fans were booing him at the stadium, which became the talking point. Many former cricketers noticed it and asked the fans not to do so. However, it didn’t stop.
IPL 2024: Shreyas Gopal reacts to fans booing Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya is yet to gain the trust of the MI fans as their new captain, and his own and his team’s performances have helped his cause as well. MI are currently struggling at bottom of the points table, and as a result, Hardik is facing backlash. During the MI vs RCB clash at Wankhede, Virat Kohli asked fans not to boo at the MI captain during the game. Now, MI spinner Shreyas Gopal has opened up in this matter.
In a discussion ahead of the game against Punjab Kings, Gopal said that he knows Hardik from a decade now and all this would help him to motivate. He said, “I can tell you over 10 years of experience or 10 years of friendship with him. He’s a really tough guy, and something like this is only going to motivate him. The way I think the way he’s taking it so far has been tremendous and and very inspiring for a lot of us. And, you know, seeing it on a daily basis is obviously not easy. But the guy is really, really strong.”
The spinner added that whatever has happened so far, Hardik hasn’t let it affect him, and the team is also trying to turn things around in the IPL 2024. MI are currently ranked eighth on the IPL 2024 points table after losing four out of their first six matches. They will face PBKS on Thursday in Mullanpur, Mohali, which is a must-win contest for Hardik Pandya and his team.
