Jarred Gillett set to wear 'RefCam' for first time in Premier League in Crystal Palace vs Manchester United game
Manchester United will hope to climb to sixth place to continue their European ambitions
When Crystal Palace and Manchester United play on Monday night in the Premier League, the official will be wearing the first time.
Jarred Gillett plans to utilise a head-mounted camera known as a “RefCam,” however the video will not be streamed in real-time. The film will be used in a special presentation that offers insight into Premier League officiating.
A camera and microphone were worn by Bundesliga referee Daniel Schlager during a 2-2 draw between Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg in February.
‘Referees Mic’d up – Bundesliga’ was another show that featured the material.
Premier League referee Rob Jones donned a camera during Chelsea vs. Brighton’s 2023 Summer League match in Philadelphia last year.
In an attempt to lessen the amount of abuse referees at that level experienced, the Football Association also tested the use of bodycams in adult amateur soccer last year.

In July, as Chelsea defeated Brighton 4-3 in Philadelphia during a preseason friendly, official Rob Jones had a camera fixed to his chest.
In the German Bundesliga, RefCam was also implemented this season. Daniel Schlager, a match official, wore a camera throughout the 2-2 draw between Wolfsburg and Frankfurt in March.
Later, the Bundesliga released a compilation of videos from the match that included Schlager’s point of view, including his close-up views of the action, discussions with other officials, and exchanges with players.
For the current campaign, Gillett has overseen 19 Premier League games and issued 84 yellow cards and two red ones. This season, he has overseen three United games, including their 4-3 loss to Chelsea in mid-October.
Throughout his tenure as a referee, he has officiated five United games, with three victories and two defeats. He officiated his first United game last season when the team defeated League One team Charlton Athletic 3-0 at Old Trafford in the quarterfinals of the League Cup.
