2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament 2024: Schedule, fixtures, results, live streaming details
India has so far secured three quotas in boxing.
The 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualification Tournament 2024, scheduled from May 24 to June 2, is the final qualifying opportunity for boxers worldwide as they aim to secure quota places for their nation at the Paris Olympics 2024. As a result, 51 quotas, which include 28 for men and 23 for women, will be up for grabs at the event taking place in Bangkok, Thailand.
A 10-member contingent will be representing India at the 2nd World Olympic Qualification Tournament 2024. Amit Panghal and Nishant Dev will lead the team India during the last qualifiers. Panghal, a gold medalist at both the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, will aim to set the stage ablaze as he seeks to represent India in his second consecutive Olympic Games at Paris 2024.
A lot will also be expected from Nishant Dev who was just one step away from winning the quota place in the men’s 71kg at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualification tournament held in Italy’s Busto Arsizio. This time, the World Championships 2023 bronze medalist Dev will hope to turn the fortunes in his favor.
Some other boxers to look out for in the men’s category are the former junior world champion Sachin Siwach, the Asian Boxing Champion 2021 Sanjeet, and the Asian Games bronze medalist Narender Berwal.
In the women’s event, both Arundhati Choudhary and Ankushita Boro, who placed first and second respectively at the Women’s National Championships in 2023, will be in action in the 66kg and 60kg at the second and final World qualifying event.
Earlier, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) had announced a team of nine members for the last qualifiers in the Thai capital. However, with Parveen Hooda’s suspension due to whereabouts failures, India lost their quota in the 57kg category. India will get another chance to earn a quota in the weight class as Jaismine Lamboria is set to represent India in this weight class.
So far, only three Indian boxers have won quotas for India – Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, and Preeti Pawar in the 50kg, 75kg, and 54kg. As a result, the boxers from these weight divisions won’t represent India at the tournament.
