Klein’s journey has begun!

The Lord of Mysteries donghua adaptation has finally been released and we were treated with 2 episodes over 1 hour of peak cinema.

As a webnovel reader, did the adaptation do justice? Was it worth all the hype that it was getting on social media? Let’s find out more in this article.

Amazing adaptation, but with some flaws

Whether Lord of Mysteries donghua really did justice to the webnovel, it’s pretty early to jump to a conclusion.

Was it worth the hype? Absolutely ‘YES.’ There is no doubt that Studio B.CMAY Pictures did an amazing job adapting this lore into animation.

However, it isn’t perfect and it was pretty much expected. They are trying to adapt the whole volume 1 in season with only 13 episodes and 2 special episodes.

It was kind of expected that the donghua would be fast-paced and we might face some heavy infodump from the start.

That’s what happened with the first two episodes of Lord of Mysteries donghua, which were released today.

Many fans and first-time viewers were quite confused and were wondering what was happening in these episodes. They had many questions that were not properly addressed.

Despite that, the first two episodes were able to hook almost everyone. The animation, art direction, background, music and visuals were spectacular.

Some areas were lacking, like in-between and character acting, but they weren’t that much of an issue for now.

Directors’ comments on future episodes

Lord of Mysteries Director has commented that from episode 3, the episode will have a slow pace and will clarify more doubts for the viewers.

He also explained that post-production will slow down and decipher the plot before pushing it to a climax. The second season will unfold gradually from the beginning, using a fresh storytelling method.

LOTM_WORLD on X also posted the B.CMAY Pictures boss’ comments about the latest episodes:

The script is an art bound by specific requirements, and ending the Clown fight in Episode 3 was a hard mandate. This aligns with the widely accepted “three-episode rule” that viewers use to judge anime/donghua. Naturally, there are some regrets about the first three episodes — painful compromises had to be made. Personally, I’m more satisfied with Episodes 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13. In terms of difficulty, Episode 1 was by far the hardest.

Thoughts

I think the studio did a great job adapting the Lord of Mysteries donghua. Although the first two episodes were fast-paced and confusing, it was able to hook viewers into the lore and story of Klein Moretti.

As a novel reader, I am pretty satisfied and I am confident that this will only get better and better with every episode. The novel is a slow burn and you need patience; the same can be said for the anime as well now.
