Tite signs Brazil contract extension, set to stay through to Qatar 2022

The Selecao endured a disappointing campaign in Russia exiting at the quarterfinal stage.
Brazil manager has been handed a new four-year contract extension that will see him continue at the helm of the national team through to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Tite was officially appointed as the new Brazil manager in June 2016. He led the squad as they became the first team to qualify for 2018 FIFA World Cup. His appointment came after he won the 2015 Campeonato Brasileiro Séries A in a record-breaking campaign with Corinthians.
The 57-year-old has accepted the offer to manage the Brazil team for the duration of the contract and has further expressed his desire to happily face the challenges that the role brings forth.
The Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) have justified the contract extension by saying that it is, “investing in a long-term project.” With a relatively young squad that needs stable management, this step could be a stroke of genius. Moreover, the CBF have also extended the contract of the team’s general manager, former Arsenal midfielder Edu.
Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, better known as Tite, was appointed as the head coach of the Brazil national team in the backdrop of two major titles at club level, a Copa Libertadores and a World Club Cup, both while he was the manager of Corinthians.

However, some sections of the supporters have seen this extension as a shock due to the disappointing World Cup campaign, that saw Brazil getting knocked out in the quarter-finals at the hands of third-place finishers, Belgium. Many had believed that the Brazilian squad needed an overhaul, including managerial change, if the side was to seriously challenge for the World Cup title in 2022 and the Copa America in 2019.

His style of play has made the side tough to break down. However, many believe that has come at the cost of restricting the team's traditional, fast-paced attacking play. But, it cannot be denied that the contract extension has strategic legitimacy and future planning, with the focus largely being on developing the current crop of young players, under stable management.
