Indian Player Ratings: Jhingan the star in below-par Southern Derby for Indians
(Courtesy : ISL Media)
The game produced nothing much to write home about until some late drama brought the crowd to life.
Sandesh Jhingan went from zero to hero as he set up CK Vineeth’s 94th minute equaliser with a sharp cross, minutes after he conceded a debatable penalty to allow Rene Mihelic to give Chennaiyin the lead in their Hero Indian Super League match at the Marina Arena in Chennai on Friday. The match ended 1-1.

Chennaiyin FCKaranjit Singh- 6.5/10
Hero of the Match? Karanjit Singh
Did not get tested much by the Kerala attack but whenever the odd shot on target came, he was there to save it except for the shot by Vineeth in the dying embers of the game. He totalled 1 catch, 1 punch and 1 clearance in the 90 minutes. Jerry Lalrinzuala- 7.0Yet again emerged as one of the better players for the Marina Machans. His passes were on point today and he managed an impressive 72% completion rate for his passes which was the joint-most anyone on the team had managed. He managed to get forward to spray two crosses which failed to test the Kerala defence. Anirudh Thapa- 6.5
Thapa pass
Thapa was brought into the playing XI replacing Dhanapal Ganesh who was rested today. Thapa started the game well but he seemed to have immersed into the surroundings as the game went on. Although he seemed to have been all over the field, his passing was off and was constantly bullied by Wes Brown. He completed 62 passes at 61% accuracy but he did manage to accumulate 1 interception and 1 block. Bikramjit Singh- 7.0Bikramjit put in a very good shift in the midfield for Chennaiyin. His 40 passes at 72% accuracy was one of the better passing performances in the game. He was all over the field today and also managed to squeeze in a shot on target. Bikramjit’s defensive contributions were on the low today as he managed just 1 interception. Jeje Lalpekhlua- 5.5 It was by far Jeje’s worst game of the season. The Mizo sniper looked like half the player he was in the previous fixtures. His touches and passing were all off and he could manage only a poor 59% pass completion rate. Francis Fernandes- 6.0 Francis Fernandes had a nightmarish game today. Having completed just 50% of his passes, his presence on the wing was not at all felt. His crosses were all stopped easily and he had a very tough time getting the ball into control as his first touch constantly let him down. Substitutes Germanpreet Singh: N/AFeatured only in the last 8 minutes of the match. Did not have much impact in the game and did not do anything note-worthy to deserve any kind of rating.

Kerala Blasters Rino Anto- 6.0Taken off at 43 minutes because of a Hamstring injury. Until he was taken off, he struggled against Jude and was getting beat easily. He committed 2 fouls in the process but fortunately for him, they did not materialise. He had an impressive 3 interceptions and 2 blocks but looked abysmal when he went one on one with the Chennaiyin winger. Sandesh Jhingan- 7.5
Penalty incident
One of the best players on the pitch today. His commanding presence for Kerala in the technical area made sure that the Chennaiyin attack fizzled out every time it looked like something was brewing. He completed 25 passes, had an astounding 14 clearances along with 1 interception and 1 block to end the game. He provided the assist for the goal which brought the game to a stale mate. The only reason he has not received a higher rating is because he gave away the penalty and got a yellow card. Lalruatthara- 6.0Another full-back of Kerala Blasters who struggled against the Chennaiyin winger. Once the Chennaiyin coach saw Lalruatthara struggling, he switched Francis with Jude to attack Lalruatthara. He was seen as a weakness and he did look nervous going against the wingers. He made silly tackles and gave away free kicks in dangerous areas. He allowed a lot of crosses into the box and finished the game with just 1 block. Siam Hanghal- 6.5The Kerala midfielder had an average showing in today’s game. His game was quite scrappy and he could only finish the game with a 58% passing accuracy. Even though he was quite useless on the attacking front, his defensive contribution has boosted his rating. He had 1 interception, 3 blocks but he also picked up a yellow card for an unwarranted foul.
Jackichand Singh- 5.5
Jackichand chance
He had an amazing opportunity to put the Blasters one up in the first half but he scuffed his shot. On the whole, he had a quite a bad game. Made just 29 passes at the rate of a meagre 55% and he managed to deliver just 2 crosses to the big man upfront. C K Vineeth- 7.5
CK Vineeth post-Chennaiyin FC interview
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]Scored the goal which ended up as the one that would mean that the game ended in a deadlock. Spent the first half in a very silent manner but he really came alive in the second half of the match. Vineeth completed 28 passes with a pass completion rate of 57%. Although his passes were not on point, he constantly troubled the Chennaiyin backline by a barrage of shots. He totalled 3 shots with 2 hitting the target. Substitutes Samuel Shadap- 6.0 Came on for Rino Anto in the 43rd minute. Just like how Rino suffered against the wingers, Samuel did too. He did managed to somewhat pick up his game early into the second half. He finished the game with 1 clearance, 1 interception and 3 blocks to his name. Loken Meitei- 5.0Featured in the game for the last 17 minutes. He replaced Jackichand Singh. Loken looked very poor in the last few minutes of the match. He made just 8 passes at a 25% conversion rate. He did not contribute much to the team defensively as well.
