Indian Player Ratings: Amrinder shines and Kattimani flops in battle of goalkeepers
(Courtesy : ISL Media)
Both teams played out a highly entertaining game in the metropolis.
Mumbai City FC played their first home game of the season against West Coast rivals, FC Goa and put the opponents to the sword in a 2-1 victory in the Indian Super League on Saturday. Mumbai looked comfortable in the game and were the better team moving forwards. Everton Santos and super-sub Thiago Santos scored in the crucial goals sealing the deal. While Arana Rodriguez did pull one back for Goa, it was hardly any consolation.
Mumbai City FC
Amrinder Singh (7/10)
Amrinder pulls off brilliant save
Amrinder looked more composed in between the sticks as compared to the last game and co-ordinated the defence well. The shot-stopper played like one who knew what he was doing and did it efficiently, pulling off some superb saves at different points in the match.
Raju Gaikwad (6/10)
Raju is a utilitarian right-back and did well going forward. He was substituted early on in the second half and it actually created a vacuum in his position till Mehrajuddin Wadoo took his place.
Sanju Pradhan (4/10)
The attacker had a few moments where he looked threatening but was well dealt with by the Goan defence. He looked to get in behind the Chinglensana but looked like a lost soul on the pitch.
Sehnaj Singh (4/10)
The gap in defence and attack left by the midfielder meant that Mumbai looked like a lacklustre unit and the yellow card he got for himself in the first half showed his lack of control on the match. He was then pulled to the right-back position where he did nothing noteworthy.
Abinas Ruidas (3/10)
Abinas, originally a winger was utilised as a left back and looked completely like a fish out of water. His errors led to numerous chances for the opposition and his lack of defensive skills was appalling.
Balwant Singh (6/10)
Balwant misses on the angle
Tried to play his best, but looked under-cooked and not ready for the match. That said, Balwant's influence on the game was considerable and his teammates relied on his positional awareness and agility to push things forward.
Substitutes
Zakeer Mundampara (6/10)
An early second half substitute who didn’t show any restraint in his game. He went out gung-ho trying to stabilize the midfield and did a good job at the helm of affairs. He was then shortly substituted as Mumbai led for the first time this season. He surely is the one to watch out for.
Mehrajuddin Wadoo (4/10)
Brought in to replace Raju Gaikwad, Wadoo felt like a wasted substitution. His haydays seem to be behind him and he is realistically just a squad player.

FC Goa
Laxmikant Kattimani – 2/10
Kattimani is the best goalkeeper in the league at present if you were reading the list upside down. His error led to the crucial goals that caused the the loss of his team. Any goalkeeper worth his salt should at least be able to hold down the first-post and also not be nutmegged.
Mohamed Ali – 6/10
Ali showed why he is irreplaceable and gave a good account of himself. His positional awareness and timely tackles prevented Balwant from breaking forward and he held the fort down for the Gaurs.
Seriton Fernandes – 6/10
Seriton wasn’t able to break into his own game and looked a little out of place. After a brilliant game against Chennai, it seems things have cooled down for the bright Goan youngster.
Narayan Das – 6/10
Narayan was instrumental for his team both defensively as well while going forward in attack. But, his team did not seem to match his high spirits and that led to him eventually disappearing from the game.
Mandar Rao Dessai – 5/10
Mandar Rao Desai post-match interview
Fatigue seems to be the keyword while describing Mandar’s game. He tried his best going forward but hardly fazed the defenders. His crossing also lacked accuracy and overall had a meagre impact on the game.
Chinglensana Konsham: 4/10
Poor positioning coupled with woeful passing can sum up Chinglensana’s game. Had he done well, maybe Goa wouldn’t have had a second goal against them.
Substitutes
Liston Colaco 5/10
Liston had more time to play in this match and showed great positional awareness but lack of supply meant that he couldn’t showcase his attacking qualities to the fullest.
