Top 5 new foreign signings in Indian Super League Season 5
These names have vast experience of plying their trades at the highest level for long.
The Indian Super League (ISL) has seen some of the biggest stars of world football, but very few players have made a name for themselves in the league. The ISL does hold the ability to make a player a hero or a villain overnight, through their contribution for their respective sides. This season too, there will be new names, some of them will catch our attention in the upcoming season while some may fail miserably.
We here at Khel Now bring you the top five new overseas signings made by ISL clubs this season. We have gone for fresh and unknown names and have skipped the ones who have already featured in India like, Manuel Lanzarote, John Johnson and Iain Hume.
5. Andrija Kaluderovic (Delhi Dynamos)
The Serbian forward was in blazing form last season in Australia, as he finished as the top scorer for A-League side Wellington Phoenix. The 31-year-old will be joining Delhi Dynamos and is definitely a player Delhi supporters will be looking forward to watching. With their new coach Josep Gombau all set to take the Lions to greater heights, the arrival of Andrija Kaluderovic will definitely be an icing on the cake.
The Serbian star who started his career at local club OFK Beograd has loads of experiences from several stints all across countries like Australia, China, Thailand, Lithuania, Qatar and Cyprus.
4. Matt Mills (FC Pune City)
Watch: Matt Mills is being regarded as one of the finest defenders to have joined the ISL this season
The former Manchester City defender is definitely one of the most high-profile defenders signed by FC Pune City. The 32-year-old was a part of the much-vaunted Southampton academy and has had stints with several English clubs like Leicester City, Manchester City, Barnsley and Nottingham Forrest. The English defender brings loads of valuable experience to the backline for the Stallions.
Last time around, Pune City managed to go through to the playoffs for the first time, but this season, with Mills' experience in defence, the Stallions will be looking to go all the way and clinch their maiden title.
3. Modou Sougou (Mumbai City FC)
The Senegalese winger will be reunited with Mumbai City FC's new coach Jorge Costa. The 33-year-old played under the tutelage of Costa when both were at Romanian side, CFR Cluj. The winger has also featured for French sides like Olympique Marseille and Evian. The latest Islander has also featured for several sides in Portugal and has made over hundred appearances in the Liga NOS.
With Everton Santos joining ATK, the Islanders needed someone to shoulder the burden of the attack. Sougou is looking like the man Costa can trust and with earlier working experience the duo will be put to the test with the start of the new ISL season.
