The Spaniard scored four goals and assisted a further six for the Men of Steel last season.

Jamshedpur FC are all set to part ways with one of their most impressive attackers last season, as Carlos Calvo is going to leave the club this summer. The 33-year-old had a splendid campaign in the Steel City, being the creative lynchpin for Cesar Ferrando’s side and often creating the sparks for the Men of Steel.

However, despite his heroics last season, the Spaniard will not be retained by Jamshedpur for the upcoming term. Khel Now understands that the Spaniard wanted to stay at the club for another season to prove himself in the Indian Super League (ISL), but the two parties failed to come to a mutual agreement.

It is also understood that Spanish giants Atletico Madrid will help the Men of Steel to identify new foreign targets for them and the decision to dismiss Calvo came as a part of it. It’s also believed that the 33-year-old’s replacement will be initiated by Atletico themselves as well.

Despite his heroics last season, in which he scored four goals and assisted another six in the league, Calvo found himself in hot water last season when he received a three-match ban from the AIFF Disciplinary Committee.

It was because of some racist comments made by him towards Delhi Dynamos Gianni Zuiverloon in their ISL encounter back in December last year. Calvo’s three-match ban also had an effect on Jamshedpur’s campaign, halting their momentum and slowing down their match towards playoffs qualification.

Regardless of whether or not the incident played a reason for his departure from the club, Jamshedpur are looking forward towards a new era next season. With Atletico Madrid said to be back being involved in the ISL after breaking apart from ATK two years ago, they’re aiming to usher Jamshedpur to champions status as well.

As a result, some fresh Spanish faces could be noticed in the Men of Steel next season, as they’ve already bolstered their team with some impressive off-season signings. Calvo’s departure would be a blow, but considering an overhaul with the help of the Spanish giants, the Red Miners can be excited for what looks like a bright future for the club.
