Premier League GW 8 Talking Points: Mourinho lives to fight another day, Mahrez misses penalty
The Cityzens, The Blues and The Reds are yet to lose a game in the Premier League this season.
Game week 8 of England’s premier footballing competition drew to a close on Sunday when two of the tournament’s favourites, Liverpool and Manchester City played out a 0-0 draw at Anfield. The Premier League table has begun to take shape with certain clubs standing out while others are struggling to make an impact.
5. Manchester United’s problems go deeper than Jose Mourinho
The English giants are perhaps experiencing the worst spell in the history of the grand old club and in times like this, it is easy to look to the manager as the source of the problem. However, while Jose is not entirely blameless, a lack of trust in him by the board and Ed Woordward meant that the Portuguese started the season with a side that was lacking in key areas.
The decision of who plays for a club should lie in the hands of the manager and not a board whose primary concern seems to be the saleability of players, rather than their ability on the football pitch.
4. Unai Emery is finding the best in his Arsenal Players
The Spanish tactician was brought into the Arsenal fold in the summer to replace the departing Arsene Wenger and was tasked with showing some of the continent’s best players how to play football again. Eight games into his Premier League game and the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Aubameyang and Aaron Ramsey have become a joy to behold, continuously finding themselves on the scoresheet.
3. Richarlison may have been the buy of the summer:
Everton are a side that continually promise excellence but always end up fading into mediocrity. Several eyebrows were raised when the toffees splashed out £50m for Richarlison from Watford. However, right from his brace at the start of the season, the Brazilian has been anything but mediocre, with four goals in his first six games.
He may well be the spark that Everton need to start challenging for the European positions again.

2. Wolves continue their impressive start to the season:
The board at the newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers are succeeding where Manchester United’s are failing. They kept faith in their manager and brought in high profile players such as Joao Moutinho for nominal prices and are seeing their efforts repaid in kind in the league. Wolves now sit at seventh in the league with four wins and one draw from their opening eight games. Not bad for a side who were playing in the Championship just a few months ago.

A lot has been said about the two-way title race between Liverpool and Manchester City in the early part of the tournament. However, it has largely gone unnoticed that Chelsea have the same number of points on the board as the other two favourites. Considering the blistering form of Eden Hazard for the Blues this season, it is very likely that we will see Chelsea in the mix for the title come the end of the season.
