Romelu Lukaku tips Luke Shaw to win Manchester United's Player of the Season award
Former United gaffer Jose Mourinho had criticised the England international a lot, eventually trusting him in his last few months at the club.
Romelu Lukaku feels his teammate and former Southampton left-back, Luke Shaw deserves to win his club's Player of the season award at the end of the campaign.
Lukaku strongly believes that Shaw has been Manchester United's best performer consistently.
However, it was not easy for the 23-year old in the beginning after his move to Old Trafford from Southampton. He struggled for form and was down with several injuries, which resulted in him being left out of the World Cup squad last summer.
But since then Shaw has come back and played with determination and has been very impressive for the Red Devils.
When asked about Shaw, Lukaku told SunSport: “He’s our Player of the Season. For us, from the start of the season until now he’s been the most consistent.
“The whole summer we were in touch, when I was in Russia. We have mutual friends, I used to get videos of him working out and stuff, and I knew that this year would be his year.
“That’s what I told him as well, at the end of the season last year, that he has the potential to be the England left-back for many, many years, and for Manchester United the same. It’s about being that guy.”
The left-back has had a tough time and after the injury against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, it was difficult for the 23-year old to come back and play again. Shaw broke his fibula and tibia and also revealed that he was very close to amputate his right leg after a crunching challenge from PSV defender Hector Moreno.
Things went bad to worse for the youngster but the left-back came back to reach new heights at Old Trafford and has made the left back position his own under Ole Solskjaer. Although his predecessor, Jose Mourinho sacked back in December last year was very critical with his performances.

Luke Shaw during his time at Southampton was regarded as one of the best youth prospects in England. However, with time, things have changed but the 23-year old is finally doing justice to his talent and the potential at the Old Trafford.
