India had a relatively quiet day at the Asian Games 2023, winning seven medals after their 15-medal haul yesterday.

Team India had five badminton matches scheduled for the day at Asian Games 2023, four were doubles round of 32, and one singles round of 64. India prevailed in two doubles matches, while two were affected by retirements. Play was halted in one of the doubles events a mere two minutes into the first game. The singles encounter was won by Srikanth Kidambi against Vietnam’s Le Duc Phat, wrapping up the game in 29 minutes, 21-10, 21-9.

In athletics, India won three silver and bronze. The medals came in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, long jump and 4x100m relay mixed final.

Parul Chaudhary and Priti set their personal best times of 9:27.63 and 9:43.32 in the steeplechase. Ancy Sojan Edappilly won a silver medal in the women's long jump with a distance of 6.63, her personal best. The final athletics medal came in the 4x100m relay in a total time of 3:14.34.

India's squash ace Saurav Ghosal downed Ammar Altamimi of Kuwait to win 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 in their round of 16 victory at the Asian Games 2023. The 37-year-old contributed to India’s win over Pakistan at the men’s team gold medal event. Ghosal will now meet Japan's Ryunosuke Tsukue, who defeated Mahesh Mangaonkar 11-6, 11-2, 11-6 in the quarter-final tomorrow at 3:30 PM IST.

Indian squash player Tanvi Khanna is also through to the semis with a comprehensive win over Thailand’s Arichaya, 11-1, 11-3, 11-2 in only fifteen minutes.

China continued to dominate the medals tally, having 269 medals in the bag, including 146 gold. Surmounting the hosts' count is a tall order at this point. Japan and South Korea have swapped places yet again. Today, Japan is in second place with 33 gold and 122 overall, while South Korea is third with 133 medals, including 31 gold.

India is at the fourth spot thanks to its rich haul yesterday and its not-so-modest haul today, with a total of 60 medals, of which thirteen are gold. Taiwan has jumped two places today to wind up fifth on the table, having 12 golds among its 39 medals.

Uzbekistan and Thailand round off the top seven. These two countries claim ownership of 43 and 33 medals, along with 11 and 10 golds respectively.

China continued to pile on the medals, even as Japan and South Korea appear to be playing musical chairs on the medals table. India holds steady at fourth place and looks set to continue its consistent performance at the event.
