India’s men and women both advance to the quarter-finals
India’s squash contingent has already put three medals on the board at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, including two silver and one bronze, and now turns its attention to the team events.

The individual competitions ended without the gold India was hoping for, with Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh, both running into defending champions from Malaysia.

The country will hope to find more success in the team’s event. The Indian men’s team is also the reigning champions, led by Abhay, with Veer Chotrani, Velavan, and Suraj Chand alongside him. The women’s team of Anahat, Joshna, Tanvi Khanna, and Shameena Riaz are bronze medallists from the last edition.

Women’s team beat China in a tight opener

India’s women started their Pool C campaign with a 2-1 win over China, though not before a scare. Shameena Riaz led two games to nil against Yin Ziyuan but lost 11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 9-11, and 14-12 in a long five-game battle. Tanvi Khanna levelled the tie with a comfortable straight-games win over Zhang Yuning, and Joshna Chinappa closed it out with a dominant win over Liu Ziyi.
Men’s team thrash China
The men’s team, on the other hand, made a flying start in Pool A, beating China 3-0. Suraj Chand set the tone with an 11-4, 11-3, 12-10 win over Du Shaoqian in 30 minutes. He was stretched in the third game, with Du earning a game point, but held his nerve.

Veer Chotrani then beat Li Haizhen 11-5, 11-5, 11-3, and Velavan Senthilkumar wrapped up the clean sweep by beating Zhou Penglin 11-3, 11-2, 11-4.
Women’s team overcome Japan despite Anahat’s loss
The tie against Japan was a tough battle. Joshna Chinappa, playing her seventh Asian Games, put India ahead with an 11-1, 11-8, 11-9 win over Erisa Sano. Anahat Singh then met No. 6-ranked Satomi Watanabe for the second time in three days.
She had beaten Watanabe from two games down in the singles semi-final, but this time the Japanese player turned it around, winning in the fifth game despite trailing by 1-2 once. That meant Tanvi Khanna had to deliver in a must-win match, and she went on to defeat Akari Midorikawa 12-10, 11-9, 4-11, and 12-10 to seal a 2-1 win and secure India’s place in the last eight.
Men’s team tops the group with a win over South Korea
The men’s team finished the day with a convincing 3-0 win over South Korea, which took them through to the quarter-finals as group toppers. Velavan Senthilkumar, Abhay Singh and Veer Chotrani all emerged victorious in their respective matches in straight games.
Other team results
Elsewhere in the women’s team event, Japan beat Iran 3-0 and China edged Iran 2-1 in Pool C. Hong Kong were dominant in Pool B, beating South Korea and Pakistan 3-0 each, while Pakistan also beat Mongolia 3-0. The South Korea-Mongolia tie in the same pool ended in a walkover.
In the men’s team event, Pakistan won both their Pool B ties 3-0, beating the Philippines and Kuwait. Malaysia did the same in Pool C, sweeping Thailand and Qatar 3-0, and Hong Kong beat Mongolia 3-0 in Pool D.
