With an impressive roster of top athletes lined up for the Diamond League opener on May 5th in Doha, the Wanda Diamond League 2023 is anticipated to be a highlight of the athletics calendar. With 15 individual Olympic and world champions among the competitors in Doha Diamond League 2023, the event is poised to be a truly exhilarating one.
With 32 disciplines, the Wanda Diamond League employs a championship-style model to determine the "Wanda Diamond League Champion" for each discipline. Throughout the season, athletes compete in four to six events for each discipline and earn points based on their ranking in the 13 qualification meetings. Athletes can earn 1-8 points at each meeting, with the top 8 or 12 athletes (depending on the discipline) with the most points qualifying for the Final.
The winners of each Diamond Discipline at the Final receive a Diamond Trophy, USD 50,000 prize money, and a wild card for the World Athletics Championships.
Doha Diamond League 2023 programme
The sporting spectacle kicks off at the Qatar Sports Club stadium at 18:00 Arabian Standard Time, equivalent to 08:30 pm in India. The event organizers will release a comprehensive schedule of the discipline start times ahead of the event.

Athletes to watch out for
The Doha event is set to be a thrilling spectacle, with several events featuring showdowns between Olympic and world champions. One of the highlights is sure to be the men's 200m which sees world 100m champion Fred Kerley of the USA face off against fellow American Michael Norman, the world 400m champion and Canada's Olympic 200m champion, Andre De Grasse.
Among the many events taking place in Doha, the women's 100m race is generating a lot of buzz. The reigning world 200m champion, Shericka Jackson, will lead the field in the absence of fellow Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and Elaine Thompson Herah. However, the line-up is still packed with top-notch talents including 2019 200m world champion Dina Asher-Smith and American sensation Sha’Carri Richardson.
The women's pole vault is also shaping up to be an exciting competition featuring the three medalists from the 2022 Eugene World Championships: world and Olympic champion Katie Nageotte-Moon, Sandi Morris of the US and Australia's Nina Kennedy.
The men's javelin event in Doha will feature an outstanding line-up, as Neeraj Chopra takes on Grenada's reigning world champion Anderson Peters as well as Olympic silver medalists Jakub Vadlejch and Julius Yego. Neeraj's countrymate Eldhose Paul is set to make his debut at the Diamond League in Triple Jump.
Doha holds a special significance for Kipyegon as it marks the place where she started her undefeated 2022 season. The Kenyan athlete went on to win her fourth world medal and her second title in Eugene before setting a stunning time of 3:50.37 in the 1500m race in Monaco - the second fastest in history.
Another Diamond League 2022 champion, Moroccan steeplechase sensation Soufiane El Bakkhali will also be present in Doha. The unbeaten star of the last season is set to light up the event with his impressive skills.
