Neeraj Chopra and Avinash Sable are the notable absentees from the meet.
The National Inter State Athletics Championships 2023 is scheduled to take place at the renowned Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This prestigious event will span from June 15 to June 19, offering an exciting showcase of athletic excellence from participants across the nation. The 62nd edition of the National Inter State Athletics Championships holds significant importance as it will double as the selection trials for the prestigious Asian Games which is set to take place from September 23 to October 8, 2023, in Hangzhou, China.
According to the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), all Indian athletes aspiring to secure a spot in the Asian Games squad will be required to participate in the inter-state meet. This directive ensures that we can anticipate an intense and highly competitive lineup of events as athletes from across the nation will vie for the opportunity to represent India at the prestigious Asian Games.
Despite being star performers in their respective events, javelin throw athlete Neeraj Chopra and steeplechase runner Avinash Sable will not be participating in the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships 2023. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has granted them exemptions due to their outstanding achievements in recent high-profile competitions.

Athletes to watch out for at Inter State Athletics Championships 2023
The battle between NR holder Jeswin Aldrin and former NR holder Murali Sreeshankar is going to be fierce at the Inter-State Athletics Meet. The latter finished third at the recently concluded Paris Diamond League and will look to carry forward the momentum here. Another horizontal jump to watch out for is the Triple Jump where the likes of Commonwealth Games gold Eldhose Paul and silver Abdulla Aboobacker medallists are set to battle out alongside NR holder Praveen Chitravel.
In the track events, Jyothi Yarraji and Tejas Shirshe will once again spearhead the hurdles contingent with Harmilan Bains set to return after a long break.
Athletes who will miss Inter State Athletics Championships 2023
Reigning Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and Commonwealth Games silver-medallist Avinash Sable are the notable absentees from the Inter States Athletics Championships 2023. Neeraj Chopra suffered an injury and he subsequently pulled out of FBK Games and Paavo Nurmi Games. Avinash Sable on the other hand took part in Doha Diamond League and is currently training in the USA.
