Inter State Athletics Championships 2023: Tejinder Pal Singh breaches Asian Games qualifying mark in men's shot put
Close to 60 athletes have surpassed the Asian Games 2022 qualifying mark
The final day of National Inter State athletics championships 2023 concluded on a positive note with several athletes (close to 60 players) breaching the Asian Games mark set by Athletics Federation of India (AFI). The standout performer overall was Tejinder Pal Toor Singh (21.77m) who breached his national record mark and simultaneously the Asian record as well.
Murali Sreeshankar continued his fine form by winning the gold medal with a best jump of 8.29m. He once again breached the World Championships qualification mark (8.25m) and also has the second best jump this season at 8.41m. National Record holder Jeswin Aldrin jumped 7.98m and in the process breached the Asiad mark who was closely followed by P.David (7.94m).
In the women's long jump, four athletes jumped above 5.40m mark. Ancy Sojan and Shaili Singh occupied the top two spots and in the process also breached the Asiad mark. In the 400m hurdles, Vithya Ramaraj continued her fine form and won her second medal (gold) by clocking 56.0 sec. PT Usha is the only woman athlete from India to go sub 56sec and Vithya was close to reaching the milestone.
The most anticipated event, men's Javelin throw lived upto its expectations with several athletes crossing the Asian Games qualification mark. Rohit Yadav, Kishore Kumar Jena and Tokyo Olympian Shivpal Singh crossed the qualifying mark but Karnataka's Manu DP (who holds the meet record) failed to breach the qualifying score and might not feature himself at the Asiads.
