Both athletes fell short of qualifying for the Diamond League finals.
National record holder Praveen Chithravel and Abdulla Aboobacker finished fifth and sixth respectively in men's triple jump at the Xiamen Diamond League 2023. After the bottom half finish, both athletes also failed to qualify for the Diamond League finals.
Praveen commenced his performance with a conservative below 16m jump of 15.91m in his opening attempt at the Xiamen Diamond League 2023. However, he quickly gained momentum, surpassing his own mark with a leap of 16.27m in his second attempt. His third jump was his strongest at 16.42m, demonstrating flashes of promise during the event.
Despite his best efforts, Praveen failed to build upon this, his fourth and fifth attempts brought little redemption, with distances of 16.14m and 16.21m falling short the qualification mark. He finished fifth and missed out on qualifying for the Diamond League 2023 finals.
Much like Chithravel, Abdulla Aboobacker made his second Diamond League appearance at the Xiamen Diamond League, following his debut in June at the Florence Diamond League. During his inaugural performance, he secured a respectable sixth place, achieving a noteworthy 16.37m jump.
In his series of jumps, Aboobacker displayed both challenges and moments of improvement at the event. He began with a leap of below sub-par 15.86m in his first attempt. However, it was in the fourth attempt that he shone, achieving an impressive 16.24m, demonstrating his ability to adapt and overcome hurdles.
His second and third attempts at 15.98m and 16.21m demonstrated a consistent effort to better his performance. Yet, it was his fifth and final attempt that stole the show, reaching the highest jump of the evening at 16.25m. He finished the event in the six position, just behind his compatriot Praveen Chithravel.
