Where and how to watch World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 live in India?

Two Indian athletes will be competing in the event.

The World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024, the pinnacle of indoor track and field, are set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland from March 1 to 3, 2024. The biennial event, which was first held as the World Indoor Games in 1985, will feature more than 600 athletes from over 150 countries competing in 26 disciplines.

Among the participants, two Indian athletes will be vying for medals and glory in the men’s jumping events. Praveen Chithravel, a triple jumper and Jeswin Aldrin, a long jumper, have qualified for the 19th edition of the championships by surpassing the entry standards in their respective events. Both of them also hold national records in outdoor triple jump and long jump respectively.

Chithravel, a 21-year-old from Tamil Nadu, is a Youth Olympic Games bronze medallist and an Asian Games bronze medallist. He also won the silver medal at the Asian Indoor Championships in 2023, where he jumped 16.98 meters.

Aldrin, a 23-year-old from Kerala, clinched the silver medal at the Asian Indoor Championships in 2023, where he leaped 7.97 meters, surpassing his national record of 7.93 meters. He will be the first Indian athlete in action at the Glasgow meet when he competes in the long jump final on Saturday morning.

Both Chithravel and Aldrin will face stiff competition from the global elite in their events. In the triple jump, Chithravel will have to contend with the likes of Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso, the 2023 outdoor world champion and the indoor world record holder and Lazaro Martinez of Cuba, the defending indoor champion and the 2023 outdoor silver medallist.

In the long jump, Aldrin will have to deal with the dominance of Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece, the reigning Olympic and world champion and the indoor champion in 2020 and 2022.
