The national shooting selection trials were held in Bhopal.

In a spectacular display of skill and precision, Tokyo Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Ashi Chouksey shattered world records at India’s national shooting selection trials. The event was held at the MP State Shooting Academy ranges in Bhopal.

Tomar, who had an illustrious run at the Asian Games 2023, continued his run of form by acing the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event. He scored an impressive 466.4 in the final, bettering the existing world record of 461.1 held by Czech shooter Jiri Privratsky. This feat further solidifies Tomar’s position as India’s most successful shooter and the leader of the NRAI’s Qualification Ranking for the Olympic Games (QROG) list in the 50m rifle 3 positions.

Ashi Chouksey also stole the limelight with her remarkable performance in women’s 50m rifle 3 positions T4 competition. Dominating the qualifiers, Chouksey’s exceptional qualification round saw her drop only three points, including a jaw-dropping 597. This performance also broke the World record jointly held by Norway’s Jenny Stene and USA’s Sagen Maddalena.

In the final round, Chouksey delivered an exceptional performance, securing the top position with a score of 461.8 points. Vidarsa Vinod trailed closely behind, achieving second place with 457.5 points. The third position was claimed by Himani Poonia, who scored 446.5 points.

It is noteworthy to mention that Chouksey has an impressive track record, having won a bronze medal in the same category at the Asian Games 2023, in addition to a silver medal in the team event
