The top-ranked Indian singles player achieved a career-high rank of 98 earlier this month.

Indian tennis star Sumit Nagal has been granted a wild card entry to the Dubai Tennis Championships 2024. Currently holding the 101st position in the ATP singles ranking, Sumit is scheduled to compete against Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego in the tournament’s opening round. The Dubai Tennis Championships 2024 is set to commence on February 26 and conclude on March 2.

Gael Monfils and Abdullah Shelbayh have also secured wildcard entries for the tournament. Monfils is slated to play against Ugo Humbert, while Shelbayh is set to face Tallon Griekspoor in the first round.

Sumit Nagal’s achievement in 2024

Nagal has been in exceptional form this year. He scripted history by entering the top 100 of ATP rankings for the first time in his career and achieved a career-high rank of 98 earlier this month. This came after he won the 2024 Chennai Open ATP Challenger title by defeating Luca Nardi in the final in straight sets.

He also emerged victorious against the 31st seed, Alexander Bublik, in the opening round of the 2024 Australian Open, thus becoming the first Indian since 1989 to defeat a seeded player at the Grand Slams.

Last appearance in 2024

Sumit Nagal made his most recent appearance at the 2024 Pune Open ATP Challenger tournament. Despite being the top seed in the competition, Sumit suffered a defeat in the second round to compatriot Niki Poonacha, who won in straight sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-3.

If Sumit wins the first round of 2024 Dubai Tennis Championship

Looking at Sumit’s performance, if the youngster wins his match in the first round, there is a high probability of facing the first seeded Daniil Medvedev in the second round of the tournament. This would present a significantly greater challenge for the Indian player to progress to the next round.
