Badminton Asia uploads map of India without parts of Jammu & Kashmir on its website, fans react
The map also contained distorted boundaries of other nations.
Badminton Asia who recently organised Badminton Asia Championships 2024 in Shah Alam, Malaysia, finds itself in hot waters after allegedly sharing an image of the map of Asia with distorted boundaries of nations. The badminton sports governing body of Asia shared a map subdividing badminton nation into categories of West Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, and East Asia.
However, this map controversially didn’t show the entire Jammu and Kashmir as part of India, and Aksai Chin was subsumed into China’s map. Furthermore, while displaying the map of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, it wasn’t properly bordered as well. This distortion of the map has garnered significant attention and outrage from the public of India.
The public’s reaction to this distortion has been swift and vocal. Fans and followers of the sport have expressed their disappointment and concern over this issue. This controversy raises questions about the ethical responsibilities of international sports organizations in representing nations accurately and respectfully.
Except for this controversy, Badminton has been a shining light as far as Badminton is concerned in India. Earlier this February, The Indian women’s team clinched a historic gold medal, beating Thailand 3-2 in the final.
