India will be contesting across eight medal events on day 2.

After a strong start to their campaign at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, the Indian contingent will be hoping for a great Day 2. India secured two medals on day 1 (one gold and one bronze). Servin Sebastian opened the account for India by clocking a personal best time of 1:21:13.6 to win bronze in the men’s 20km race walk.

Gulveer Singh was crowned as the Asian Champion after winning the men’s 10,000m with a time of 28:34.64. This result plays a huge significance for Gulveer, as it increases his chance for qualification to the World Championships.

India will be in action across eight medal events on Day 2, with several top athletes looking to deliver big performances. The men’s decathlon will end on day 2, and as things stand, Tejaswin Shankar is in pole position with 4205 points after day 1. Day 2 features five events, in four of which Tejaswin is relatively weaker, so it will be a true test of his resilience and consistency.

The women’s long jump qualification will feature Shaili Singh and Ancy Sojan, both of whom will be aiming to breach their personal bests. In the women’s 100m hurdles, reigning Asian champion Jyothi Yarraji will begin her campaign in the heats.

The men’s triple jump final will also take place, with Abdulla Aboobacker and Praveen Chitravel in action. Praveen has already qualified for the World Championships and will be aiming to add the Asian title to his name. While Abdulla will be looking to jump over 17m to get valuable points for the world championships.

The finals of the men’s and women’s 400m races are also scheduled. While a gold might be difficult in the women’s event, both Rupal and Vithya Ramraj will be giving it their all to secure a medal. In the men’s 400m, Vishal won’t be a medal favourite; however, he will aim to breach the sub-46-second mark.

Yoonus Shah will be looking to win gold in men’s 1500m after finishing second in heats because of showboating near the finish line. He was visibly upset with it and will be looking for redemption in the final. Lili Das and Pooja will also be hoping for a podium finish in the women’s 1500m.

India’s campaign on Day 2 will end with the women’s 10,000m and mixed 4x400m relay final, where Seema will target a decent finish, and the mixed 4x400m relay final, while the Indian mixed team will be looking to win gold. Their main competition is with China, which is in great form after this historic run at the World Relays to qualify for the World Athletics Championships.
