This marks India’s third medal in the format since it was introduced in 2019.
The Indian mixed 4x400m relay team continued their merry way as far as the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 is concerned after they successfully defended their title at the marquee event. They Indian quartet clocked 3:18.12 to win gold on Wednesday in Gumi, South Korea.
The team, which consisted of Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan, Rupal Choudhary, Vishal TK, and Subha Venkatesan, was clinical from the start and led the race, which saw them maintain steady baton exchanges and a consistent pace.
Santhosh Kumar opened the race and gained India an early lead in the final stretch of the first leg. Santhosh, starting the race, surged in the final 100 meters of the opening leg to hand India the lead. Rupal faced a stiff challenge from her Chinese counterpart but held her ground with poise.
Vishal extended the margin under pressure before Subha, the lone returning member from the 2023 team, sealed the win in the anchor leg.
China finished second with a time of 3:20.52, while Sri Lanka secured the bronze in 3:21.95.

From a numbers standpoint- this victory marks India’s third medal in the mixed relay event at the Asian Athletics Championships, which was introduced in 2019.
India won silver in the inaugural edition in Doha, where the quartet of Mohammad Anas, M. R. Poovamma, Vismaya Velluvakoroth, and Arokia Rajiv clocked 3:16.47 to finish behind Qatar’s Gulf neighbor, Bahrain, who ticked 3:15.75.
But what happened at the 2023 Athletics Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, was the coming of age of Indian athletics, where India’s 4x400m mixed relay team, composed of Rajesh Ramesh, Aishwarya Kailash Mishra, Amoj Jacob, and Subha Venkatesan, blazed to gold with a time of 3:14.70; that performance shattered both the championship and national records.
