Animesh Kujur wins bronze in men's 200m at Asian Athletics Championships 2025

En route to the medal, Animesh Kujur also bettered his own National Record in the event.
India’s Animesh Kujur clinched the bronze medal in men’s 200m sprint at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 in Gumi, Republic of Korea, on Saturday, May 31. The national record holder clocked a time of 20.32 seconds to better his own National Record. The previous National Record was 20.40 seconds, set by Animesh earlier this year.
Animesh becomes the second Indian athlete after Dharambir Singh to win a bronze medal in the men’s 200m final at the Asian Athletics Championships. Dharambir clinched a bronze medal in the 2015 edition of the tournament.
Speaking of the race, the 21-year-old was trailing and out of medal contention during the bend. However, he caught up the speed in the final stretch to add a bronze to India’s medal tally at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025. The 20.32 seconds is also Animesh’s new Personal Best, surpassing his previous best of 20.40 seconds.
Eight athletes competed in the men’s 200m final, including two each from Japan and China. One athlete each from Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and India were in action.

Japan’s Towa Uzawa secured the gold medal with a time of 20.12 seconds. He also set a new Competition Record (CR), bettering his own mark of 20.23 seconds achieved at the 2023 edition. Meanwhile, Abdulaziz Abdu I Atafi from Saudi Arabia won the silver medal in the race, clocking a personal best of 20.31 seconds.
Seven out of eight athletes completed the race, while China’s Shi Junhao was disqualified.
