Asian Athletics Championships 2025 Day 5 Highlights: India win six medals on final day, finish with 24 medals

India finished their campaign with 24 medals in the event.
On the final day of the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, India added six more medals to their tally to finish the ACC 2025 edition with a total haul of 24 medals, including eight gold medals. While the Indian contingent failed to clinch any gold on Day 5 of the competition, four more silver were added to the tally. Praul Chaudhary and Pooja also joined Gulveer Singh in bagging their second medal at the Continental championships.
Sprinter Animesh Kujur started the day with a bronze medal in men’s 200m, clocking 20.32s to also rewrite the national record in the event. The previous record was 20.40s that he had set earlier this year.
Vithya Ramraj then followed with another bronze medal in women’s 400m hurdles. She achieved a timing of 56.46s to register a third-place finish in her event. The men’s javelin throw was next, and India had two participants in Sachin Yadav and Yash Vir Singh. The event also had reigning Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan.

To the surprise of nobody, Arshad claimed the gold medal having led the event for five of the six attempts. His best throw, however, came in his final attempt when he flung his javelin to a distance of 86.40m to race clear of the rest. India’s Sachin Yadav finished a distant second, also rewriting his Personal Best by more than a metre with a final attempt of 85.16m to bag silver.
Meanwhile, compatriot Yash Vir Singh ended in fifth place with a best throw of 82.57m.
Parul Chaudhary also bagged silver in her event. She finished second in women’s 5000m with a timing of 15:15.33s to claim her second medal in the competition. Earlier, she had clinched silver in women’s 3000m Steeplechase with a national record timing.
Young Pooja Singh also claimed her second medal in the tournament by winning bronze medal in women’s 800m finals. She had earlier won silver in women’s 1500m.
The day then ended with the Indian women’s 4x100m relay team bagging silver in their event with a superb run. The quartet of Srabani Nanda, Abhinaya Rajarajan, Sneha SS, and Nithya Gandhe ran in lane three and delivered a clean baton exchange in all three changeovers, stayed in medal contention throughout the race, and pulled ahead of Thailand in the final stretch.
Asian Athletics Championships 2025 Day 5 Highlights
Earlier, India continued its strong showing on Day 4, highlighted by a gold medal-winning performance from Gulveer Singh in the men’s 5,000m event. Gulveer clocked a time of 28:38.63 to secure the top spot, while his compatriot Sawan Barwal finished just off the podium in fourth place.
In the field events, Nandini Agasara became only the third Indian to win gold in the heptathlon event while Pooja triumphed in the women’s high jump final. Parul Chaudhary broke the National record to bring home silver in thewomen’s 3000m steeplechase final.
By the end of Day 4, India bolstered its medal tally to a total of 18 medals, including eight gold and seven silver. Moreover, the country enhanced its lead over third-placed Japan, with the two nations now separated by four gold medals.
