Vishal TK breaks national record in 400m at Inter-State Athletics Championships 2025

Vishal TK breaks the previous record of Muhammed Anas Yahiya in the men’s 400m set in 2018.
Vishal TK etched his name in Indian athletics history after producing a record-breaking run in the men’s 400m at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships 2025 held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
The 23-year-old from Tamil Nadu not only clinched the gold medal but also rewrote the national record, finishing with a time of 45.12 seconds. With this win, Vishal surpassed the six-year-old record of 45.21 seconds set by Muhammed Anas Yahiya.
Soon after crossing the finish line ahead of Rajesh Ramesh, who ended the race in 46.04 seconds, Vishal TK dedicated his record-breaking performance to his coach, Jason.

Holding up a handwritten note that read “For my coach Jason”, the young runner made his gratitude clear in a heartfelt gesture.
Earlier in 2025, at the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea, he recorded his personal best of 45.57 seconds before breaking into new territory in Chennai.
He was also a crucial member of India’s gold medal-winning mixed 4x400m relay team and the silver medal-winning men’s 4x400m relay squad at the continental meet.
At the national tournaments, Vishal has been a consistent force in middle-distance running. He is a Federation Cup national champion. He also won gold at the World Athletics Continental Tour bronze-level meet.
