Malaysia Masters 2023, a BWF Super 500 Tournament, started on May 23 and will continue till May 28. The inaugural edition was held in 2009. This will be its 14th edition. India have won three titles here and all came in the women’s singles category. PV Sindhu won twice in 2013 and 2016, while Saina Nehwal won in 2017.

This time Indian shuttlers will look to end the title drought here and would want to perform well since the Olympic qualification cycle for Paris 2024 has already begun. They would want to get those valuable points. No Doubles players are participating in this tournament so eyes will be all on the singles player to deliver and regain their form.

Ace Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy advanced to the women’s and men’s singles semi-finals of the Malaysia Masters 2023 with hard-fought wins on Friday (May 26). It was, however, curtains for compatriot Kidambi Srikanth who went down against Indonesian qualifier Christian Adinata in three games.

Two-time Olympics medallist Sindhu, who is seeded sixth at Malaysia Masters 2023, defeated the lower-ranked Yi Man Zhang of China 21-16, 13-21, 22-20. Prannoy, on the other hand, earned a hard-fought win against Kenta Nishimoto. He beat the Japanese 25-23, 18-21, 21-13 to reach the semi-finals. Srikanth lost to Adinata 21-16, 16-21, 11-21 in 57 minutes to exit the BWF Super 500 tournament.

Prannoy will next face the Indonesian qualifier in the semi-finals. He will certainly eye revenge for Srikanth's loss. Sindhu will be up against seventh-seed and World No. 9 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung again of Indonesia for a place in the final.
