Hosts Indonesia will clash against Japan for the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2023 mixed team title. Indonesia have won the team competition twice, but are yet to win the mixed team title, which replaced the team competitions in 2006. Japan, on the other hand, won it in 2012. The Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2023 is being held for the first time since 2019. Thailand are the defending champions but have been knockout from the semi-finals stage this year.
Indonesia beat the defending champions Thailand 3-0 to reach the finals, while Japan saw-off Chinese Taipei 3-1 in the final four stage. The losing semi-finalists, Thailand and Chinese Taipei, will take hom the bronze medal. Earlier, Indonesia defeated India 3-1 in the quarter-finals stage to reach the final four. Similarly, Japan beat record eight-time mixed team event winners China to reach the semis.
Adrian and Felisha started the quarter-final encounter for Indonesia with a straight games win over India's Samarveer and Radhika. The pair won the mixed doubles clash 21-16, 21-15 to put Indonesia 1-0 ahead in the quarter-final meeting. Alwi Farhan then fought back from a game down to beat to beat Ayush Shetty in three games. He beat the Indian opponent 18-21, 21-15, 21-19 in a nail-biting match to put the hosts in a commanding position.
India pull themselves back in the contest with a win in the girls' contest as Ruzana went down to Raskshitha Sree in another three-game clash. She lost the match 18-21, 21-10, 21-23. But Muhammad Joaquin closed the tie for Indonesia with a victory in the Boys' doubles clash. The Indonesian pair beat India's Divyam and Mayank 21-10, 15-21, 21-12 to make it 3-1 for Indonesia and send them through to the semis.
