PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy to lead India's challenge in BWF World Championships 2023

A 14-member Indian contingent will be in action in the C’ships.
The seedings and entries for BWF World Championships 2023 are out. 14 Indian shuttlers have made the cut for the prestigious event out of which five have been seeded across five categories. The competition offers valuable ranking points for Paris 2024 qualification cycle. India’s top ranked men’s singles player HS Prannoy is the highest seeded player in singles – 9th followed by in-form Lakshya Sen at 11th.
Two time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu has just made the cut and is seeded 15th. Only the top 16 players are seeded and the 28-year-old was close to not getting seeded. Saina Nehwal was the other women’s singles player in the fray to make the cut but opted out from playing the championships.
In the doubles section, Asian champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty followed by Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun will be participating in the competition. The former are seeded second and will be placed in the bottom half of the draw.
MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila withdrew from the opening rounds of Korea and Japan Open respectively owing to former’s back injury. They will look to come back strong after finishing as the quarter-finalists in the last edition a round away from winning the bronze.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand apart from the All England Championships haven’t put in any formidable performances losing in the opening rounds of several BWF World Tour tournaments. On the other hand, Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy will be making their debut as a pair the the World’s followed by Venkata Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan.
