BWF World Championships 2023 Day 1 Highlights: HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen advance, Srikanth crash out

Five Indians – HS Prannoy, Kidmabi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen and Sikki Reddy/Rohan Kapoor will be in action today playing their opening round encounters at the BWF World Championships 2023. Out of the above mentioned names, mixed doubles pair of Sikki and Rohan will play the first match scheduled to be held in Court 1.
Later in the day, a stern test awaits former world number one Kidambi Srikanth who is set to take on fourth seed Kenta Nishimoto. The Indian enjoys a (6-3) head-to-head advantage over the Japanese player and most recently defeated him in the opening round of BWF Australian Open 2023. Srikanth later in the tournament lost to country mate and upcoming stare Priyanshu Rajawat in the quarter-finals in a one-sided affair but overall had a good tournament.
He will look now look to carry forward the same momentum going into the BWF World Championships 2023 and is often known for his wild finishes. Other Indians in the fray, ninth seed HS Prannoy will battle out against Finland’s Kalle Koljonen while 11th seed Lakshya Sen takes on Julien Paul.

Badminton’s biggest event, the BWF World Championships, is back to Copenhagen, Denmark this week for a record fifth time. No other city has hosted this prestigious championship on more than three occasions apart from Copenhagen. After a break of two weeks, the entire focus of the badminton fans is now shifted to the most important event in the annual calendar — BWF World Championships 2023. The event starts on August 21 (Monday) with the finals to be played on 27th (Sunday).
Top players from around the world will gather to compete against each other and will try to finish on the podium. With the Paris Olympics scheduled for next year, the BWF World Championships 2023 has become very important for all the players looking to make the cut to Paris.
