The record was previously held by the Chinese shuttler, Chen Yufei who won seven BWF World Tour titles in the year 2019. An Se Young won the gold medal at the BWF World Championships 2023, and made a history as the first Korean women's singles player to win the World Championships title. With the triumph at the China Open 2023, a BWF Super 1000 event, An Se Young has won two of the four tournaments of this level on the BWF Tour.

A BWF Super 1000 event is only second to the World Tour Finals on the BWF World tour and winning two of them (All England Championships and China Open) along with one runners up (Malaysia Open) in a single year, it is a fabulous achievement.

During the China Open 2023, the Korean shuttler dropped only one game in the course of the whole tournament, to Han Yue of China in the quarterfinals. She is chasing a dream run of being unbeaten since the Indonesia Open 2023. With Kento Momota's record of 11 BWF World Tour titles in a single year, An Se Young is eyeing to break the record as well.

Earlier, she defeated three-time world champion and Rio Olympics gold medalist, Carolina Marin to clinch her maiden gold in the World Championships this year.

The 21-year-old shuttler, will now be seen directly in the Hangzhou Asian Games and will be the favorite to win the individual title. With her in the team, the women's team also stand a chance to medal in the team event. The glorious prodigy has already made her mark to add her name in the list of the greatest of All-time in the sport along with Susi Susanti, Carolina Marin, Han Aipeng and many other greats in the upcoming years.
