The two-time Olympic medalist will next be in action at the French Open.
Ace Indian shutter PV Sindhu has reacted to Afghanistan's historic win against Pakistan at the ongoing ICC Men's ODI Cricket World Cup group match in Chepauk on October 23 (Monday). Afghanistan beat Pakistan by eight wickets, to inflict a third straight defeat on Babar Azam's side. This was also Afghanistan's first-ever win over Pakistan in eight ODIs.
Sindhu, who was involved in a thrilling semi-final clash against long-time rival Carolina Marin in the Denmark Open 2023 last weekend, warned teams to be way of the Afghans.
"Every team needs to worry when they play against Afghanistan," the 28-year-old badminton superstar wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) quoting Harsha Bhogle's post. Sindhu revealed she managed to catch "a few overs while getting ready for the French Open." She is scheduled to play Indonesia's Gregoria Mariska Tunjung in the opening round at French Open 2023 - a BWF Super 750 tournament.
Sindhu further continued, "They have the spinners to trouble any lineup and players who prioritize the team before anything else. Their batting maturity today was phenomenal."
Meanwhile, Sindhu was not the only one shocked by the win. Harshad Bhogale, voice of Indian cricket, enjoyed Afghanistan's win over Pakistan more than he did when they defeated the current world champions England.
Bhogle wrote on X, "Wow, Afghanistan. I thought the win over England was their biggest day on a cricket ground. But this run-chase might even top that. Take them seriously because the maturity they showed today is so admirable. I am voting for this over the England game."
At Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, Afghanistan stunned Pakistan by eight wickets causing a stir on the internet. Thanks to the efforts of openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65 off 53 balls) and Ibrahim Zadran (87 off 113 balls), Afghanistan was able to reach the set target of 283 with six balls remaining. Rahmat Shah and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi each made contributions of 77 and 48 runs to see Afghanistan through.
However, the Afghan player who impressed the most was Noor Ahmed who made history on his World Cup debut. The Afghans secured their second win of the tournament following the victory over defending champions, England. With that win, Afghanistan had ended a 14-match losing streak at ODI World Cups.
