PV Sindhu is the only Indian to win the title on three occassions.
The BWF (Badminton World Federation) Macau Open is scheduled to return to the 31-tournament HSBC BWF Word Tour calendar from 2024-2026. With New Zealand Open making an exit, the BWF committee has reinstated Macau Open back to the BWF circuit. The decision was made after Badminton New Zealand relinquished its hosting rights of the New Zealand Open (Super 300) for the remainder of the cycle in March earlier this year.
Macau Open made its debut in 2006 and was initially an open international championship. In the following year, the tournament was categorised by the BWF as Grand Prix Gold level event, which carried a total prize money of US$120,000. The competition held on for 14 successive years till 2019 after which the competition was removed.
The New Zealand Open which was scheduled to be held in August this year got cancelled. BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund said Macau was the obvious candidate to take the vacant hosting position. The Macau Open has been a mainstay on the tour since 2006 and we’re excited to welcome them back in 2024.
“We have full confidence that the Badminton Federation of Macau will deliver a spectacular tournament over the next three years.”
