PV Sindhu won the inaugural edition in 2018.

In the realm of professional badminton, the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2023 is one of the most prestigious event, which is set to be held from 13 to 17 December 2023 in Hangzhou, Republic of China. The top eight players and pairs in each category in the BWF World Tour 2023 rankings will be invited to compete, with a maximum of two players or pairs per member association being eligible.

Only the best 14 results from BWF World Tour tournament this year will count towards the rankings, and of the best 14 results, a maximum of three results from Super 100 tournaments will count. The list of athletes qualified for the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals will be confirmed after the China Masters 2023.

PV Sindhu remains the only Indian to have won the prestigious competition once. In this article, we will take a look at the list of Indian shuttlers who can qualify for BWF World Tour Finals 2023

HS Prannoy

India’s number one men’s singles player HS Prannoy is currently ranked in 17th spot in the HSBC BWF World Tour rankings with 63590 points. There are two tournaments (Japan Masters 500, China Masters 750) left in the ongoing season, from which around 20200 points can be accumulated – provided he wins both the competitions.

For qualifying for season-end tournament, HS Prannoy needs to gather a minimum of 15,000 points. Notably, the current leader in the BWF World Tour rankings is Chinese shuttler Li Shi Feng, holding the top spot with 85,160 points.

This season, the Indian has showcased his prowess by clinching the Malaysia Masters 2023 title and securing second and third positions in the Australian Open and Indonesian Open 2023, respectively.

Satwik-Chirag

Former world number one pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, India’s dynamic badminton duo, have had a remarkable year in 2023, showcasing their exceptional skills and unwavering determination on the international stage. The pair, known as ‘Satwik-Chirag,’ is currently ranked no. 11 in men’s singles in the HSBC BWF world tour rankings.

The Indian duo has so far scored 67020 points. To participate in the World Tour Finals, Satwik and Chirag must score at least 13000 points from the remaining tournaments. However, they have a new setback now, as they lost in the opening round of Japan Masters 2023. Currently their chances of qualifying looks thin as they only can only participate in China Masters – final qualifying tournament for BWF World Finals.

This season, the Indian duo clinched top spot at the Swiss Open, Indonesian Open and Korean Open 2023.

Lakshya Sen

An emerging badminton talent from India, Lakshya Sen, currently holds the 16th spot in the BWF World Tour rankings with a total of 64760 points. The 21 year-old in this season has just won one tournament – Canada Open and secured third position in the Thailand Open 2023 and Japan Open 2023.

India’s number two men’s singles player must accumulate a minimum of 14000 points from remaining two tournaments (BWF Japan Masters 500, BWF China Masters 750) to secure a spot in the World Tour Finals 2023.

In the men’s singles section, both Prannoy and Lakshya Sen are currently 10000 points away from the eighth spot. They need to gain as many points as possible in order to stand a chance for qualification.
