Former world No. 1 Kento Momota secured a long-awaited win at the Korea Masters 2023, marking a triumphant return after a two-year hiatus from title victories. His journey included wins against formidable opponents like WANG Po-Wei and SOONG Joo Ven, exhibiting his trademark precision and endurance.
The final saw Momota facing Watanabe, who had defeated the number three seed Wang Tzu Wei in the semifinals and put up a strong challenge. Though Watanabe led briefly in the first game, Momota swiftly regained control, ultimately securing the victory in a commanding second game.
Expressing gratitude to fans and coaches for their support, Momota acknowledged the significance of this win, hailing it as his first title triumph in close to two years. He commended Watanabe for his efforts and looked forward to future encounters. Watanabe, despite the emotional loss, praised Momota and pledged to elevate his game.
