She reached the pre-quarterfinals in the recently concluded French Open.
Former world champion, PV Sindhu, will be out of action for a few weeks due to a left knee injury. She suffered during her second-round clash on Thursday (October 26) against Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in French Open 2023. This caused the two-time Olympic medalist to sit out from the campaign and raised concerns about her bid to qualify for the upcoming Paris Olympics, the world’s biggest multi-sporting event.
“After returning home from France, and undergoing a knee scan we’ve found a niggle in my left knee. In hindsight, conceding the match was the best call. Doctors have advised a few weeks’ rest before I begin training. The break is also an opportunity to focus on the upcoming Olympics,” star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu said on her X handle, formerly known as Twitter.
The injury occurred when she over extended herself while returning a shot from near the net. She was leading against Supanida Katethong before she ultimately retired. The injury is a problem for PV Sindhu, who was gradually regaining form and recently returned to the top-10 in the women’s singles BWF rankings.
For the past month, Sindhu has been enjoying good success progressing to the semifinals of Arctic and Denmark Open. In both the tournaments she beat the emerging WR-7 Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia. With good results, she got back into the top-10 after a gap of few months.
The Indian is currently ranked 14th in the race to HSBC World Tour finals. She will now most likely not be progressing through to the year-ending tournament which she missed out last year as well due to an injury.
