The BWF World Tour Finals 2023 is scheduled to be held from 13-17 December in Hangzhou, China. Top eight players/pairs in all five disciplines battle out in the year-ending competition to decide the numero uno for BWF World Tour 2023. For the shuttlers to qualify, they need to finish inside top eight in the qualification race or be crowned world champion.
Viktor Axelsen from Denmark will be eyeing for a hat-trick of titles having won the previous two editions comprehensively. Moreover, Denmark have won the men’s singles title for three successive years and this time have two badminton players battling out for the coveted top spot.
On the other hand, An Se Young will be looking to get back to form after suffering from an injury which kept her out of action for the last two months. She suffered an shock exit to countrymate Kim Ga Eun in the opening encounter on Wednesday.
What is BWF World Tour Finals?
The BWF World Tour Finals is an annual badminton tournament which is held every year where shuttlers with the most points from that calendar year’s events in the BWF World Tour qualify. The top eight shuttlers/pairs from each of the five disciplines fight in the year-ending tournament to decide the ultimate winner of BWF World Tour.
The players need to accumulate maximum points till a stipulated time frame to be in the top eight of the qualification rankings and stand a chance to qualify directly.
Note: BWF World Rankings points are not taken into consideration for BWF World Tour Finals qualification.

How to qualify for BWF World Tour Finals 2023?
Qualification criteria for BWF World Tour Finals
- The shuttlers/pairs have to finish inside top eight in the road to BWF World Tour Finals qualification cycle.
- World champions are given direct entry to BWF World Tour Finals. If the world champion finishes outside top eight in the qualification cycle, then only the top seven players from that particular discipline qualifies.
- Only the best 14 results of each shuttler/pair from BWF World Tour tournaments during the year will count towards the BWF World Tour Finals qualification.
- Players finishing outside top eight in qualification stand a chance to qualify only if any of the players inside the top eight get injured and pull out.
- Irrespective of their position, only two shuttler/pairs from a single nation can participate in a particular category in the tournament.
