The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has announced the top eight players or pairs in each of the five disciplines who will compete in the prestigious BWF World Tour Finals 2023, one of the highlights of badminton’s annual calendar. The sixth edition of the competition is scheduled to be held from December 13th to 17th in Hangzhou, China.

Mixed doubles title contenders at BWF World Tour Finals 2023
Seo Seung-Jae/Chae Yoo-jung
Seo Seung-Jae and Chae Yoo-jung qualified for the BWF World Tour Finals 2023 by virtue of becoming world champions. They however finished third with 1,00,000 points in 19 tournaments. Moreover, the Korean pair won two titles this year which include a Super 100 and Super 300 tournament. Seo Seung Jae apart from qualifying for mixed doubles has also qualified in men’s doubles category.
They world champions ended the year on a brighter note having finished in the semifinals and above in the last three tournaments.

The Chinese mixed doubles pair of Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dongping started the season by winning three back-to-back tournaments. They won a record seven titles in this season and finished first in the rankings with a total of 1,12,050 in 17 tournaments.

Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong
The second Chinese player to qualify and the current world no.1, Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, dominated the circuit along with their compatriots. They won five tournaments this year and ended the season with back-to-back title wins. Moreover, Zheng and Huang also defended their title at the Indonesia Open and Malaysia Open.

The World no.2 pair from Japan, Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino, finished fourth in the BWF World Tour Rankings by accumulating 98,460 points in 14 tournaments. They finished the season by securing two titles and finished runners-up thrice. The duo started the season on high by reaching the final in their first two tournaments.

Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai from Thailand finished the season by securing 91,070 in 16 tournaments. They won only one title this year at the Malaysia Masters and finished finalists twice.

Kim Won-ho/Jeong Na-eun
The second Korean pair to qualify for the BWF World Tour Finals 2023, Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun, finished seventh in the BWF World Tour Rankings 2023 with 86,100 points in 15 tournaments. They won only one tournament this season albeit were consistent with their performance throughout the season.

Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet
The 2021 World Championships bronze medallists, Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet, came back to form in the second half of the season, enabling them to qualify for the World Tour Finals. They finished eighth in the rankings with 78,770 points in 20 tournaments. Overall, the pair could manage only one title triumph at the Hylo Open.

Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei
The young Malaysian pair of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei qualified for their maiden BWF World Tour Finals. The duo finished ninth in the rankings by securing 78,040 points in 20 tournaments. However, they made it to the competition as three Chinese pairs were already positioned in the top eight. The rule states that only two players/pairs from a single nation can qualify for BWF World Finals.
With this they sneaked in and will be competing in the year-ending competition. They were also nominated for the BWF Most Improved Pair of the Year award.
