Defending men’s double champions Satwik-Chirag has pulled out.

The Badminton Asia Championships 2024 are set to commence on April 9 in Ningbo, China with top players from around the globe converging to secure their Olympic spots before the deadline.

Celebrating its 41st edition, this badminton tournament is sanctioned by Badminton Asia. Last year’s Championships unfolded at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall in Dubai, where Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting claimed the men’s singles title and Taiwan’s Tai Tzu-ying triumphed in the women’s singles. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy–Chirag Shetty also secured a gold medal for India in the men’s doubles.

However, the men’s doubles pair has withdrawn from the tournament. Satwik’s shoulder injury which he sustained last week, forced the duo to pull out of the Championships.

In their absence, India’s contingent would be led by HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Srikanth Kidambi.

HS Pranoy will face-off against China’s Lu Guangzhu in the opening round, while Kidambi has been handed a difficult draw with a clash against second-seeded Anthony Ginting looming in the first round. As for the women’s singles, PV Sindhu did not have a happy return to the court after her Injury.
